He couldn’t see Mario through the clouds of dust and chaos, but he assumed his brother had left Luigi to secure the Princess whilst he escaped to deal with whoever dealt this blow. That was typically the arrangement in these situations, after all.
However, as the younger climbed the dais towards a crouched Peach, his heart ceased its powerful beat, if only for a second…for within his sights keeled Mario, dusted and bloodied. He quaked with the violence of an earthquake, wheezing as he clutched at his abdomen…and as he pulled back a singular hand to reveal soaked, crimson gloves–
–Luigi collapsed at his side.

Or, an attack is formed on the Mushroom Kingdom, and Mario is injured in the heat of it all.

Summary
The avian was offering a deal…a truce during this short visit between him and the escapee; Rek would join him, Derapchu, and (hopefully) ClownPierce in a bounty hunter mission.
“For charity!” he had chirped giddily, lips quirked with all the innocence of a small fledgling. His wings fluttered with the caressing spring breeze, valiantly attempting to coax peace into Rekrap with the spread of multi-color feathers…but Rekrap knew.
This wasn’t going to be some playful reunion; this was about to be a gruesome trip down memory lane.

The darkness of this secret space is chilling and musky—a stark contrast from the warmth of Baker Street that he used to live in. Digits that quiver and quake grope upon rough concrete and slick steel in pursuit of his only hope of warding away its murky shadow and unsavory atmosphere—light.
His muscles ache in protest of his craning body. The frigid atmosphere of this abandoned, decrepit warehouse does him no favors, especially with the healing lacerations on his back. After all, he’s yet to recover from his latest rendezvous with Moriarty’s network.

Pangi, raising a dubious eyebrow, picked his way towards the quivering man that remained upon the cherry wood floor. Zam did his best to not recoil from the proximity—his skin still felt as though it bubbled with fierce fire and would fissure open with any touch. The pangolin seemed to take notice of this, offering an understanding nod before lowering himself beside the Void Creature with an acceptable distance betwixt each other.
“You’ere thinking?” Pangi echoed. Zam nodded in reply. “Huh…okay…what’ere thinking about?”
“...Spawn.”
