“You named it after yourself?” He did laugh then, short and sharp, like a bark. “Yeah, I get it. Sometimes music feels more like yourself than yourself, right? It’s all about expression.” His face twisted then, a shadow of the vicious snarling he’d seen earlier during his dance. That had been a kind of music, too. Wei Wuxian had used his body as an instrument, the stick he’d held in his hands an extension of his palm as he’d cracked it against the ground like thunder, as he'd yelled at the watching audience like a howling wolf. Watching him had felt like a bloodletting, like a release. Lan Wangji didn't want to leave just yet.

He glanced up in time to see Wei Ying wave at him with the stuffed shark in one hand, using the other to blow him a kiss as the truck passed. Then he was gone, off being beautiful and competent somewhere else.
Lan Zhan stood rooted in place, already resigned to the inevitable teasing from his brother and now Nie Mingjue, and had a sudden, annoyed realization that Uncle was going to be so, so smug about this.

This post-canon story is about Wei Wuxian’s first birthday as Lan Wangji’s husband. What would Lan Wangji gift his favorite person, considering he probably spoils him all the time anyway?
The goal was to write a story that feels like another Extra at the end of the books. So it takes place post-canon (not the Yiling Patriarch era), the title was simply chosen as a head nod to TGCF’s Extra “The Ghost King’s Birthday”.
It’s my first Wangxian fanfiction; I hope you enjoy it!
