Summary
Hanahaki disease causes a person who has or thinks they have unrequited feelings for someone to start coughing up flower petals. The patient will start to grow flowers in their lungs, which will eventually render them unable to breathe and thus suffocate. It is thought the disease is caused as a punishment for forcing your love on someone when it is not wanted.
It is a medically known disease, and has different types much like diabetes. There has been plenty of research into the disease such as symptoms, cures, causes and long term impact on survivors, with scientists making significant advancements in recent years. However, it is still a rare disease as people rarely fall so deeply in love for it to have an impact, and when they do it's often not unrequited. Therefore, commonly people don't know much about it apart from the fact that if you start to cough up flowers it means the love of your life does not love you back.Title from Paramore's Monster
