There were many things that Oscar could cite as explanations for his ruthlessly competitive side. Perhaps it was being raised the eldest to three sisters-- which turned family game nights into battle fields and made fights over who got shotgun in the car cut-throat. Or, maybe, as Mark so often reminded him, his very DNA was coded to be race-car driver material; Oscar chased checkered flags and first place finishes the same way anyone else chased air to breathe.
It could even be that his worst enemy, his rival in every sense of the word, was, at the same time, also his teammate. While every driver on the grid was talented, no doubt about it, there was no one Oscar saw himself in more, no one he wanted to beat more, than Lando. They had the same drive to win, the same fire fuelling them, the same end goal: to be the chosen one that ended McLaren’s dry streak; be World Champions. They just had different means to the same end. Same same, but different. They were two sides of the same coin.
But when flipped, one side of the coin was always going to have to come out on top.

The FIA and the GPDA are excited to announce the official longue of the new Grid Mentorship Program for the 2025 season. The goal of this program is to help the new drivers – commonly named rookies – settle in correctly in the big family that the grid is. To reach that goal, each rookie will be assigned two mentors amongst the reasonably experienced drivers. It will be the mentors’ responsibility to ensure that their designated rookie gets a happy, safe and successful start to his life on the grid!
*The participation to the mentorship program is not optional. Every driver chosen to be a mentor must take an active role as such, or he will face consequences.

Lando’s mouth moved first. “We’re still friends, yeah?”
Oscar didn’t answer at once, letting the word cracked in his chest. He bought a second by picking up the nearest bottle, opening it because his hands needed something to do, and then setting it down again. “Friends?”
“Pals. Good buddies,” Lando said, lighter, almost teasing, like the tone could carry the meaning across without hurting either of them.
“Yeah,” Oscar said. He made his mouth find the tilt that sold it. “Just friends.”
When Lando first saw Oscar in his navy puffer jacker and backpack at 6AM under the fluorescents of the McLaren Technology Centre, he'd never thought a rookie, in two years, could wrecking him on track physically and emotionally. 2023 Oscar was harmless, 2024 Oscar proved himself, 2025 sees Oscar as a pitfall in every sense of the meaning. Winter break was when everything began and burned down in the same month. They made a promise to keep whatever is between them offtrack in the 2025 season. The deal was necessary since it was the only way they could truely fight for the championship fairly, and the two idiots want that more than anything, maybe even more than each other.
