Summary
He had it planned out. He had written the words in his notepad, then tore the paper and tucked it in a pocket. He swallows nervously as he catches sight of her standing under an overhead, watching the rain forlornly.
Marinette. He had learned that was her name.
...
“Is this another prank?” She asks angrily, her blue eyes boring into his.
He shakes his head.

Summary
Adrien Agreste is always silenced. Don’t slouch, don’t act out, don’t talk back, don’t disobey, don’t do anything to make the Agreste brand (not name; never name) look bad. Never talk with your mouth full, never step to the right when you’re meant to go left, never look up when you are not told to, never speak without permission. Adrien Agreste is always silenced.
Gabriel Agreste, his father (not dad; never dad), has conditioned him to stay silent and sit on the back burner, while he takes everything by the reins. From his studies, to his internet access, to his social interactions–down to the very outfit he wears. He is controlling of his son’s life, but his son is used to it.
Because when you’re Adrien Agreste, you learn to be silent. You learn to sit up straight, to act right, to comply without words, to obey, to be perfect (not good; never good). You learn to chew before even moving your lips and covering your mouth to do so, to follow your father step by step and never break from the routine, to look down and only look up if called, to speak when spoken to. Adrien Agreste has learned to live with being silenced.
Adrien Agreste is always silent.

Summary
Adrien didn’t like to talk. This is perfectly reasonable; talking can be frustrating and scary and exhausting. Nobody has to talk if they don’t want to.
The issue was that when someone doesn’t talk, people start to put words in their mouth and make lots of assumptions. And since Adrien didn’t talk, he had this problem.
So when he finally meets his pretty classmate Marinette, things don't go so well—until they do.

Summary
“This is Adrien Agreste, son of Gabriel, head of the guard.” Father motions to the boy standing still and straight as an arrow beside him. He has blond hair and green eyes, a face blanker than a sheet of paper. “Since things are so very dangerous right now, we just thought it might be better for you to have a personal guard."
Does it sound agreeable to have someone breathing down her neck every second of the day? No, but she would hate to disappoint her parents by being difficult.

Marinette plays the roll of perfect princess well, but not a well at all when she also has to be Ladybug. She’s in love with Chat Noir, but can’t easily see him outside of their heroic duties because of her pesky new body guard. On top of it all, Hawk Moth’s attacks are getting more intense. Something is happening, and Marinette doesn’t know how long she can keep her secret identity a secret.
