Summary
In the Valley of Imladris, Elrond and his companions have founded the Last Homely House - a refuge, a haven of peace in the wilderness of Middle Earth. Erestor alone remembers the flames, the blood, the ashes, the terrible flight from the ruined city. But he is not the only survivor of the Fall of Gondolin, it seems, and Glorfindel's arrival shatters his hard-won composure. Memories resurface, of the House of the Fountain, of Ecthelion, who took him in and raised him as a brother, of a golden hero on a white horse, riding out to battle...
And Glorfindel's fate seems to be as inseperable intertwined with the House of the Fountain as with that of the House of Earendil - not that anyone ever asked Erestor's opinion on the matter, or whether he wanted to inherit the entire gloomy history of his house, golden-haired fools included. In other news: Elrond meddles, Celebrían sends flowers, Galadriel and Celeborn give advice, Thranduil gets on everyone's nerves, the dwarves raid the wine-cellar, and the Witch-King of Angmar does his very best to ruin everything.

Summary
This is a bit of exploration of the history of Arnor inspired by the following passage in the Appendices:
"A great host came out of Angmar in 1409, and crossing the river entered Cardolan and surrounded Weathertop. The Dunedain were defeated and Arveleg was slain. The tower of Amon Sul was burned and razed; but the palantir was saved and carried back in retreat to Fornost, Rhudaur was occupied by evil Men subject to Angmar, and the Dunedain that remained there were slain or fled west. Cardolan was ravaged. Araphor son of Arveleg was not yet full grown, but he was valiant, and with aid from Cirdan he repelled the enemy from Fornost and the North Downs. A remnant of the faithful among the Dunedain of Cardolan also held out in Tyrn Gorthard (the Barrowdowns), or took refuge in the Forest behind.
"It is said that Angmar was for a time subdued by the Elvenfolk coming from Lindon; and from Rivendell for Elrond brought help over the Mountains out of Lorien." (pg. 359)
Some of the details have been toyed with to try to fill in the blanks between what happened.

Summary
The story details the trials of a young Dunedain in the service of Argeleb I, starting from the time Argeleb claims suzerainty over Cardolan and Rhudaur. The story begins with Argeleb claiming authority over the Dúnedain, and the subsequent reaction of the HillMen of Rhudaur. The border skirmishes that result lead to an eventual escalation of the conflict that underpins the beginning of the fall of Arthedain.
The story will be told from the point-of-view of the son of a noble of Arthedain, whose efforts on the front lines of the border fighting with Rhudaur earn him a place in the King’s Guard.
