Sherlock Holmes was living in his apartment in London close to the British Museum. He lived alone because he couldn’t stand other people. Not even his brother Mycroft was a welcome guest.
He was only welcome when he brought money. He had cut off his younger sibling from the family money because he was a drug addict.
He had no work. His problems with authorities prevented that. Most of the time, he was extremely bored. He did do things a bit not good during these dark hours.
Mycroft demanded to find a flatshare. If not he would make sure he had a troublesome life. If he managed he would pay his rent. -

“Careful with it.” Sherlock’s voice startles him. The violin slips from his shoulders, as John lets it - carefully - drop into the case, together with the bow, before he turns to his flatmate. The man leans against the door frame, wrapped in just a blanket, a smirk on his face.
John smiles awkwardly at him, “Sorry, sorry! I was just putting it away. I… spilled some water, while making tea. On the kitchen table. Wouldn’t want the violin to-“
Sherlock shakes his head and moves towards him, pointing at the violin. “Pick it up.”
Carefully John bends to grasp the violin and he shoulders it once more, letting it sit awkwardly on his bad shoulder.
"You’re holding it wrong,” he states flatly.
John prepares to lower it, an apology ready on his lips. Until this very moment - or maybe it was the night when Sherlock played - John had had no interest in playing the violin. But now that he stands here, the wood against his skin, the instrument ready, he can’t help but smile a little at the detective’s odd look.
