    Wei Wuxian, the Yiling Patriarch, demonic cultivator and perpetrator of the massacre at Qiongqi Way, destroys the Stygian Tiger Amulet three days after his nephew’s one-month ceremony.  

    His family's safety has been assured: Jiang Cheng is in command of Lotus Pier, Jiang Yanli, Jin Zixuan, and Jin Ling are ensconced in Koi Tower. The Wen Remnants will be secluded and guarded in the Cloud Recesses, where Wei Wuxian trusts Lan Wangji to look after them, even when Lan Qiren disapproves.

    Wei Wuxian destroys the amulet before negotiations over his own life start, which may, in retrospect, have been foolishly shortsighted.

      This is cry on the train good angst. A diminished depleted depressed WWX shrinks his existence down to a room in the Unclean Realm for years as agreed punishment after QQP (JZX lives) and is slowly coaxed back to life by NHS. Hopeful ending in tandem with its also excellent predecessor story charting JGY’s return from the dark side courtesy of four niblings’ affections and JYL’s battle to recognise him.

    The afternoon before the ritual, Nie Mingjue realized that he didn’t want to do it after all. He watched Nie Huaisang, his didi, his heir, the only family he had left as the barely sixteen-year-old boy clumsily made his way through saber forms, sweating profusely and cursing every time he nearly nicked himself or dropped his saber. And, in watching him, in watching this small, fragile boy, slight in frame and chubby from both his general lack of exercise and his youth, Nie Mingjue realized that he didn’t want to do what needed to be done.
    Perhaps—perhaps Nie Mingjue could make it less unpleasant, at least, than his own ritual had been. Nie Mingjue sent for oil, and soothing medicines and salves, and some of Nie Huaisang’s favorite candies, gathering them all in his quarters a few hours before he would need to call his didi there.

    Qinghe Nie has a very special ritual that their sabers demand when they need to recognize the next heir.

    Nie Mingjue thundered out. The only response he received was the fading echo of his own voice. He knew he was about to act impulsively, but he hadn't been thinking clearly in weeks.

    What did it matter?
    He couldn't let him leave just like that.

    He took swift steps towards the rain-dampened curtain Meng Yao had disappeared behind just moments before, his eyes grappling onto anything and everything before him-- he hardly noticed the rain itself. Nie Mingjue felt his head swim with an oh so familiar rage when he caught glimpse of a svelte figure standing directly beside the entryway from which he'd burst forth. Meng Yao hadn't gotten far at all.
    Slowly, the shorter man lifted his head to look at his superior, his soaked locks clinging to his graceful features.
    "You always go yelling and chasing after me, Da-ge…. You've become so predictable."
