Summary
Twenty-five-year-old Kathreen Powell has never known stability. When she moves to the Buckingham sector of Gatineau to attend school for the first time, she's thrown into the chaos of adolescence, identity, and survival—French-Canadian style. There, she meets a crew of broken, brilliant weirdos just as lost as she is: Clara, the manipulative bombshell with a grip on the student body; Sophie, a sharp-witted trans girl with too much soul and too many secrets; Laurence, an autistic redhead navigating sex work and abandonment; Mike, a jock by day and drag queen by night; and Nelson, a bruised and silent boy who just wants to be seen.
Haunted by her mother Bianca's deportation and forced return to Canada after her gender transition, Kathreen must carve out her place in a world that keeps trying to erase people like her. Between cafeteria power plays, street-level survival, and bitter truths about family, gender, and trauma, the group finds fleeting moments of love, rage, and loyalty—before it all begins to unravel.
Brutally honest, darkly funny, and emotionally raw, this is a story of found family, fractured youth, and the thin line between tenderness and ruin.
