Jamie, Astarion, Minthara, and Shadowheart are running from Absolutists in an underground tunnel system when a mysterious enchanted door appears (very conveniently) and demands a small price for safe passage: a chance to view one memory from each of them of their first loves. Jamie's ready to get it over with. Minthara is offended. Shadowheart is intrigued—memory is involved, after all. Astarion is... well. Less than pleased, to say the least.

“You know me,” Karlach quips through gritted teeth. “Authority issues.”
Orlando clutches desperately at her, as if her touch could halt the unnatural twisting of limbs, the screams of agony. At the very last second, Karlach forces her lips into a pained smile and says, “See you on the other side, yeah?”
The transformation feels both endless and instantaneous. When it’s over, there’s a Mindflayer hovering in front of Orlando who looks exactly like every other Mindflayer she’s ever met, except this Mindflayer is the love of her life.

But as they both begin to unravel their histories it becomes clear that living a lie isn’t simple when your past doesn’t lay dead.
But for the first time she can remember, being alive seems to provide more comfort than the thought of a shallow grave.

Theater druids make me cringe. Flaunting the forms nature loans us, prancing around complimenting each other's ears. They make me want to join a fungal colony the easy way.
And that Kagha woman just reeks of shadow. Tryhard 'druids-are-scary-too' nonsense. "ThEn tHe VIpeR MuSt stRIke." What a dork. Bonding with nature to perform villainy in front of other people is disgraceful. It makes us all look like idiots.
I guess killing them wouldn't be the least cathartic thing I've ever done.

Astarion and Petra come upon a portal while looting a vampire den and accidentally wind up in Thedas, where they’re at the mercy of Iris Lavellan, Dorian Pavus and Solas in order to make it back home.
Unfortunately, it turns out Solas and Iris are kind of a pain to deal with. Worse: the feeling is mutual.

After saving Baldur's Gate and losing her love, Petra hides away at her father's house, refusing to see her friends or return to her previous career as a stage performer. After a year of hiding, Astarion tracks her down and insists she move into his house with him, so he can care for her better than her distant father is. As Petra begins to navigate the world again, she becomes obsessed with avenging Karlach, and so she comes up with a plan: she's going to go to Avernus and kill Zariel.
Oh, and Petra and Astarion are desperately in love with one another, and everyone knows it, save the two idiots pining for one another.
