Summary
(A rewrite of Minecraft Diaries, almost entirely from Laurance Zvahl's perspective. Yes, there are OCs, they are not love interests)
Waking up in a dingy cell in the Nether is a far cry from the life of greenery and sunshine Laurance is acquainted with. He's resigned himself to contentment with his fate, hoping to die in the Nether as his true final act of protection for Lady Aphmau. However, when he meets an eccentric warlock whose resigned themself to the same fate he has, it begins to change his perspective. With one strange friend in his corner, Laurance is more confident in his strength and ability to crawl back home from this and return to the world of evergreen trees, throwing bones to dogs, and protecting villages that he once knew as home.
Valentine's been trapped in the Nether for decades now, serving the Shadow Knights (one general a little too well) for as long as he can remember. He's uninterested in the idea of leaving this place. It's become home to him. The sane, half-baked Shadow Knights he comforts and cares for have become something like found family to him. Laurance, though, Laurance is different. That is exactly why Rune loathes him. Laurance and his stupid kindness.

Summary
Laurance knows that there are three constants to what is happening.
The First Event is meeting Aphmau — and later Garroth. The Second Event is getting trapped in the Nether. The Third-
The Third Event is their demise. Trapped within the white cathedral, stuck inside of Irene's Dimension. The only escape Laurance ever finds is the world resetting.
So, here he is. Back before the First Event — back before he meets Aphmau. He's tried everything to get the world to continue past that point by now. All except one thing.
Laurance is going to meet Aphmau in Phoenix Drop way before they're supposed to meet in Meteli. There's only one problem Laurance finds.
Aphmau never comes to Phoenix Drop.

She didn’t expect it when a strange dark haired woman took the people of Zoey’s home to a new village, and intrigued by the woman’s kindness, she followed. The small village seemed to be in a healing phase, recovering from something Zoey had seen and experienced before. It wasn’t the first time she had seen the Shadow Lord’s influence but it was the first she had seen a village overcome it. After exploring the village, she settled into a stall in the plaza and waited for the woman to catch Zoey’s attention once again. What it was about her, the blonde wouldn’t have been able to tell you at the time. Maybe she would guide her to that something to make the name Taltatheil easier for the elf to bear.

She noted the way his eyes had gone purple and glassy, that the darkness she had seen encroaching upon the gold of this scales were in fact burns of some kind, smoking and spreading and flaking away into the wind.
Ungrth met her eyes, and unfurled his wing, setting something—someone—in the sand as gently as possible.
“Laurance!” She was at his side in an instant, finding herself much more successful at hauling him around than Ungrth, and placed herself back before the wyvern, Laurance’s head in the crook of her neck, tucked into her side.
