Barry stayed focused on his task, cleaning and inspecting the wound, and paused only to murmur, “Thought you were a tough guy. Can’t take a little pain?”
Len wasn’t sure whether or not to be angry. He was surprised to find that he actually liked the way Barry talked to him, disrespectful and snarky. It had been a long time since anyone was this…blunt with him.

And I mean, really have to tell you something!” Miku begged, it was like a toddler trying to get their way. Or trying to persuade their parents into getting them a toy. Rin only rolled her eyes. Sighing as she gave into Miku’s premise.
“Fine, but only for tonight, ok?” She remarks. But Miku only smiles gleefully, clapping softly as she gets up from the booth, suddenly dragging Rin out from her own seat.

A flicker of genuine astonishment passes behind Len’s narrowed eyes. “And yet you’re here telling me about it, rather than taking her on your very first real date. Why the hesitation, Scarlet? I thought Iris was everything you wanted since you were little?”
Barry flings his hands out in frustration. This is the part that’s going to be mortifying. “She is! She was! But that was before you and I started this, and…”
Len’s eyebrows just about join his hairline. “And you don’t wanna give this up."

Mick doesn’t bother sticking out his hand. He doesn’t do touch, and he doubts the kid does either. “Mick.”
The kid gets a weird, dark look in his eye, and he’s silent for a stretch. Finally, he says, “Len,” in a way that feels like he’s imparting something big.
Just like that, Mick’s got himself a responsibility. Didn’t really plan on it, but his mother used to tell him, back when he was always bringing home wounded strays, that if he saved a life, that was his responsibility from then on. He figures there are worse responsibilities to have than a punk kid with something to prove.
He figures wrong.

Seeing a penny heads up she can only hope that it means luck, that whatever was going on right now would be for the best. Taking the coin from the ground she hold it up and out to the man with a gun trained on her. She knew she wasn't walking away from here. As queasiness bubbled up in her stomach and she felt like throwing up she forced out a smile and touched her stomach as if to calm it and keep from throwing up in fear. "Penny for your thoughts?" Perhaps she'd been around her snarky boyfriend far too long as saying this to the man with a twitchy trigger finger might not be the best of plans.
