Summary
Life has never been easy for anyone, especially for Varian. He seemed to be cursed or something. Even though he doesn’t like to base his explanation on magic, his life did seem to be affected by it. Especially since the black rocks appeared. Ever since then he was acting out of character, getting mad more often and having trouble sleeping. But the moment he talked to Rapunzel and promised to help with the rocks, everything fell apart.
But now a new opportunity has shown. He could find a way to free his dad and get rid of the rocks. And he could find all of that by just… going on an adventure?
OR; Varian joins the gang in season 2 and he meets Hugo there. ^^

a modern high school au (yes im basic) rewrite of tangled the series, with extra angst n character development stuff thrown in for sparkles :) ive tried to focus on filling out the main cast's personalities and traumas and how they'd interact with each other, and it's hard but im doing my best to keep their interactions in character loL. this was never meant to be a full story haha i wrote a couple oneshots for fun and then it accidentally became a whole story so here we are. also there's ruddiger angst im very sorry he doesnt deserve it

Cassandra is repulsed by the color grey. It’s her hair, her clothes, her eyes. It was the same shade of hair and eyes of a woman that gave birth to her. The woman who abandoned her from someone else, a literal princess. Cassandra is just second best
Varrian is traumatized by the color amber. It’s the color of his potions and chemicals. The same type that made the amber. The same amber that killed trapped his dad.

“I haven’t seen this for a long time.” she answered cryptically. She turned slowly to face Cass, her view of the words now obscured by the back of the paper. “It’s an incantation for The Seuche Curse.”
“The what?”
“The Seuche Curse, also known as Der Pestfluch. It’s a spell that can cause just as much, if not more destruction than the incantation of Decay. I thought this was destroyed millenia ago along with the Demanitus scroll, but apparently I was wrong.”

After using an incantation she found in the Great Tree, Cassandra creates an ancient plague that causes children all around Corona, including Rapunzel's friends, to suffer. Will Varian, Angry, Catalina, and all the other Coronian youth survive? Or will the "Der Pestfluch" destroy Corona?

After a chance turn of events, the outcome of Varian’s kidnapping turns out a little differently, and Zhan Tiri takes interest in the young alchemist.
But even as the demon secures a way for her to keep an eye on Varian, Cassandra begins to question whether her destiny is worth all the pain it’s caused.
Meanwhile, those at the castle are running themselves into the ground trying to find the missing alchemist because, despite Cassandra’s insistence that she’d released him, Varian seems to have disappeared without a trace.
