Summary
The year is 1918. Deryn and Alek have made a happy life for themselves in the Zoological Society of London, filled with adventure, research, and- most importantly- each other.
That life is shaken when their latest assignment takes them to the Darwinist heart of America to infiltrate the Eugenics Record Office and unravel a project to fabricate a genetically superior human being. Deryn is forced to resume her old disguise to make the infiltration work, and Alek finds himself struggling to keep their relationship a secret.
As more and more wrinkles pile on to themselves, Alek and Deryn are both forced to rethink who they were when they first met. And discover just how much further their relationship can go.

Aleck was special for many reasons, yes he had noble parentage but that wasn't as special as the fact that he was a male omega. He could use magic! Specifically healing powers and water powers. If his parents announced that to the world many countries would covet him and want him to marry into their bloodlines so it was kept a secret at least until their will came out.
Deryn was unique in her parents eyes for many reasons, one being that she was a female alpha. That didn't stop her parents from loving her anymore or less. The Sharp’s did keep her second gender a secret as if their government found out she would be forced to enlist in their army because of her destructive powers and her fire powers and her family didn't want the government to dictate her future, but if she wanted to join the army they would fully support her.

This is a revision of an old story I began in 2015 and started uploading to fanfic.com back in 2018 and never finished despite the multiple updates saying I was going to (Ezqueza, forgive me I was young and lazy), but now I'm slightly older and while still lazy I'm determined to give it a try.
This is an AU fic which diverges from the canon after the ending of goliath and takes place six years after the Great War with some flashbacks planned. the war did not end as in the books and instead a upscaled spanish flu has devastated the world. Deryn has been changed by the machinations of a devious Dr Barlow Now Deryn, Alek and Newkirk are older and stranger but are determined to carve out a place for themselves in this new world.
