Akito fell asleep with his head on Ena’s shoulder, but when he woke up, she was on the other side of the cave, using blood from the palm of her hand to draw a door on the cave wall. Akito had shuffled over to her, and Ena had stopped to hug him fiercely and kiss the top of his head. “I love you,” she said.
“Love you, too,” Akito replied, and then he shook her off and said, “Why are you drawing with your blood?”
“I need to keep you safe,” Ena murmured, and Akito frowned as she turned back to the wall.
His confusion grew and grew and then-
Ena slid the key into the cave wall and said, “Take him somewhere safe.”
“Ena? What’s happening?”
Ena turned the key, then turned to hug Akito once again. “Auntie told me about our parents,” she said in a hurried whisper. “They made keys that could take people anywhere, let them do anything. The king wanted them, but Father refused. He sent them to another world, all but one. The last one was given to Auntie.”
“And now… You have it?”
Ena nodded. “Now I have it."
