Summary
In October 2001, after releasing his first novel and inspired by recent events, *Eric Nylund* returned to a number of his previous literary projects. Having had been hired by PepsiCo to make good on their recent acquisition of Gatorade, Nylund mulled for weeks over how best to portray *Gatorade* while cementing his place in literary greats.
The "White Whale" of modern literary greats, the *Nylund Gatorade Promotional Fiction* would never see the light of day... Until 2024.
Collaborating with Jia Tan, we were able recover the corrupted remnants of that work from the PepsiCo servers.
Despite constant legal threats from the estates of both Edgar Allen Poe and Octavia Butler, physical threats of violence from PepsiCo enforcers, and nightmares which implore us not to, we're happy to share the reconstructed work with you today:
The Clowns who Stumble into Omelas.
Set in the year 2001, modern-day Fortunato makes his escape from immurement, following one child's mysterious wailing.

“We're here because thou desire me.”
“We're here because thou insult me.”
“And thou art drawn to that?”
“Scarcely.”
“Another trait, then. Willst thou disclose?”
“Nay.”
“Timid?”
“Rational.”
I wrote this while in the hospital. Do not take it seriously. I was in pain and sick.
I alternate between "you/your" and "thou/thy" depending on whatever I want to do.
This work was written and edited 100% by a human. Fuck ai.

Summary
I can feel my mask shift as I smile and hold his arm tighter. He notices and meets my gaze, the candlelight shining across his eyes. They’re a deep hazel with little flecks of something of gold’s nature. They’re beautiful.
He pushes me back slightly. “I must ask, Fortunato, why are you staring so intensely at my eyes?”
I laugh and rest my head against his shoulder. “Why, Montresor! They are nice, in this light.” I blush and laugh again, trying to play it off; tomorrow, maybe, he will just assume it was the alcohol. For he knows that I drink quite a bit, and I know he does too, and neither of us mind it. Alcohol puts you in a daze, a comfort, which our shared want fulfills. Nothing more, but nothing less.

Summary
My heart pounded a bitter tattoo as he drew nearer. I permitted his hand on my shoulder, tracing down my arm to ghost over my fingers. I allowed his hand to grasp mine with a delicacy unbecoming of a handshake; I allowed this even as his thumb dipped with the contours of my knuckles.
I allowed this all, until his eyes flicked down in challenge.
A prologue to "The Cask of Amontillado."

Summary
But that didn't matter, it didn't matter. Using all his strength to pry a hole out of the wall, throwing brick after brick behind him hearing each one crack, snap, and break as they slammed into the ground, he made a decently sized hole in the wall. Grabbing the torch from the ground and throwing it to the side behind him, the ash scattered as the sizzling flames fell. Montresor took his trowel and went at the chains holding Fortunato to the wall. BANG BANG BANG - CLICK CLACK CLICK - SNAP!
Montresor decides against his plan last minute and tries everything he can to get Fortunato to forgive him.
