Summary
“So, it doesn’t actually have to be fine. I mean, we gotta keep going anyway, right? But it’s allowed to suck.”
Ema doesn’t yet know how right she is; everything in Apollo’s life is a series of befores and afters. It’s a series of losses, abandonments, homes and families and safe places going out like supernovae over and over again without end. He finally found something like stability with the Agency, and now he’s nearly gone and screwed that one up too. Now, with Clay gone and the court system literally blown wide open, Apollo can’t help but feel it’s only a matter of time before the vacuum of space opens up and swallows him whole.

OR: Following the UR-1 retrial, Apollo is still mourning Clay while recovering from his injuries. Ema is tasked with performing a wellness check. -

And then, suddenly, it’s quiet. There’s darkness again, silence. Tentatively, Apollo opens his eyes. He can still see the intermittent glow from the fireworks, but he can’t hear them as anything other than a distant, dull rumble anymore. Edgeworth is there in front of him, a hand on either side of Apollo’s head.
--
Fresh off the heels of the UR-1 retrial, Apollo learns the bombing left more than just physical scars. He finds an unexpected ally in Miles Edgeworth, who simply cannot help seeing echoes of himself in Apollo's nascent trauma and grief. Meanwhile, Phoenix proposes a toast. -

Summary
He climbs in the passenger’s seat and Trucy slides into the backseat next to Apollo, who might be half asleep. Clay’s jacket now lies discarded reverently in his lap and Athena’s teal windbreaker is wrapped around his shoulders instead. The thumb of one hand runs idly over the hem of the jacket, and Trucy reaches to hold the other; Apollo barely even reacts.
“He said he was cold,” Athena whispers when she catches Phoenix watching the pair of them through the rearview mirror. She puts the car in drive and pulls out of her parking space. “Clay’s jacket has Apollo’s blood on it.”
Phoenix winces. That’s right, he was wearing it when Tonate attacked him.

Or, the night of the UR-1 retrial, Phoenix Wright picks up the pieces. The lines between father, mentor, and friend may be blurrier than he once anticipated, and that might just be okay. -

Summary
The doctors warned him that the concussion could cause mood swings, especially combined with the pain of his other injuries and his very fresh grief, but he didn’t think it would be so hard. He thought that once everything was all said and done, that he’d feel better—that finding Clay’s killer would be enough catharsis, and that once he got some sleep he would be able to function without this horrible weight crushing his chest or this deep, deep agony clawing at his insides. Foolish, really, as Apollo has lived with the pain of loss his whole life.

Or: The dust settles, everyone goes home, and Apollo has the biggest physical and mental breakdown of his life. It's a long road toward actually being fine, but it turns out he doesn't have to walk it alone.
