Physical touch has never been a kind thing to Dazai. He can’t count the number of times he’s been slapped, punched, kicked, stabbed, shot, etc. etc.
He definitely can’t count the number of times he’s been hugged. Or held. Or even have a soft, gentle, caring hand on him. Sure, he’s had semiplayful physical exchanges with Chuuya, has held him in his arms after Corruption, but that doesn’t count. Neither did the times Chuuya or Odasaku stitched up his arms and held him through panic attacks and dissociative episodes.
Those were just moments of weakness. Moments that should never and will never happen if he has a say in it.
But apparently, the world doesn’t give a damn about what Dazai Osamu wants.

Summary
The stranger rolled in his slumber, mouth semi-open and a weird smile on his face that Chuuya had never seen on him before. It made him look somewhat younger, and softer, with the way the sand was dusting his face and his wet hair was clinging to his skin. He reached his hand out, moving a strand away. The guy' smile widened and he leaned into the touch like a pet fish would. It was endearing, he thought, bowing down until their noses almost touched. Without thinking, he inhaled deeply: the human smelled of salt, like the ocean, like Chuuya's home.
When he opened his eyes again, the man was blinking up at him, still clearly lost.
Startled, Chuuya jumped and dived back into the water, swimming swiftly back home, hoping the guy would think he had been hallucinating all along.
Chuuya couldn't avoid the feeling that he was somehow still going to get fucked big time by his good deed.
(Or, when merman!Chuuya saves Dazai's ass from drowning, he can't know how much both their lives will change.)

Dazai has felt- off recently. he doesn't know why, but he sure as hell isn't going tell anyone.
When Dazai first started feeling tired, he played it off as not getting enough sleep. but when ongoing symptoms lead him being (forcefully) taken to see Mori, things start looking bad for him.
While this should be a normal check-up, dazai expects to hear something like low blood sugar or maybe he needs more sleep.what he doesn't expect is a diagnosis of lymphocytic leukemia. well fuck.

Dazai can actually cook and clean, despite what many say, he just... doesn't.
After moving in with Chuuya though, he realises that canned food or lazy takeout and a dusty, cluttered space are fine for someone like himself. But Chuuya deserves more, deserves something normal and comforting. Someone as intensely alive as Chuuya deserves a life worthy of that aliveness.

Something had shifted even more lately, like a weird tension had mixed in the easiness that had started to grow between them. Dazai's eyes had started to linger longer than necessary after they had finished talking, or bickering, or were just sitting closer than normal during a meeting. Every time, Kunikida wondered how a genius could be that stupid.
They gave him a headache.(Or: five times people witnessed the stupid idiots that Chuuya and Dazai were, and one time one of them had an epiphany.)
