Halloween was never her favorite holiday. Karen had never been one for horror, even before going through her own. There was enough to be scared of in the world without ghouls and goblins. Plenty of monsters that looked just like everyone else without inventing ones that were easily identifiable as something evil.
Now she knew better. Now she knew even those monsters, as real as they are, can still hide among them. Wolves in sheep’s clothing. That felt too literal these days.
