Summary
They lived and they loved, and their people were thriving
For as the King, so thus the Kingdom shall go;
Then one day the King felt his Forge-fire reviving;
Mahal would upon them his blessing bestow.(Strike the spark, light the forge, oh!)
“My love,” cried the King, “you have kindled my fire;
None other have loved me so well to do so.
Make haste to my side; for my need has grown dire.
My forge is prepared for you; pray strike the blow.”Lyrics Excerpted from "The Hobbit's Blessed Hammer," Ereborian folk song, circa TA 2948
Before the dragon came, Thorin used to have romantic daydreams about finding someone who would love him so much—would make him feel so safe and treasured in heart and body—that the spark of creation would light within him, allowing him to bear their child. After the dragon, there was no time for such tender hopes: there was only his duty.
And then Bilbo Baggins entered his life, and once-impossible wishes began to come true.
