Summary

A year passes. A year of Elizabeth having Simon. Of Simon having her. Of Johnny getting them both. The year has its ups and downs, as expected, but generally speaking it’s good. Johnny loves every second of it. It’s ridiculously domestic, so much so that the military lads all make jokes and laugh about it being so unbelievably crazy that this is their lives now, but they all adore every single moment of it.
The family are all comfortable in their lives together.

The question takes him by surprise, since he looks at you with sad nostalgic big blue eyes and for a moment you are distracted.
(Maybe it was a nice time to accept that maybe (just maybe) you had always had a crush on your best friend’s older twin brother but hadn’t said anything and was slightly disappointed when your date didn’t work out).
“Aye, of course”, and then he grins and for a moment you must remind yourself that you need to move.
You pass him the newborn slowly and carefully and he is kind of scared for a moment and holds him rather awkwardly before you softly correct him.

"Have you ever taught kids how to swim before, John?" Simon asked, eyes fixed on the man's resume.
John shook his head. "I used to lifeguard in the summer at my community pool at the YMCA. I didn't actually teach lessons, but I would supervise the ones going on. I've always wanted to try but didn't have the time to enroll in the course by the time the pool was hiring."
Ghost nodded, jotting a note down. John watched the tendons in his arm flex in time with the movements of the pen, his tattooed sleeve once again drawing his attention. The images on Ghost's pale skin were blown out and faded with time, nearly unidentifiable in some spots, but John couldn't help the rush of intrigue and attraction that followed the sight of greyscale skulls and weaponry.
He'd always had a thing for tattoos. Just his luck his potential new boss was covered in them.

She woke up a while before, and she was scared at the start, but Price calmed her down fast and talked to her in a way you have never heard him talk to anyone before. She ended up snuggling against his vest and you were sure that it was uncomfortable as hell, but somehow Price made it comfortable. He put his scarf and yours (after asking you for it quite randomly) over her like he was trying to use them to keep her alive.
You knew it was more to keep her as comfortable as possible.
He held her like she was precious cargo like she was…his own child.
It gave you a sense of hope and it made you think of things you shouldn’t think, really.

“Hi Johnny.” Simon Riley says. Maskless, clad in black, and with a loose bandage around his wrist. He has a slope to his posture, be it shame or hurt, Johnny isn’t sure.
What he is sure of though, is the growing sound of footsteps and the thundering of his daughter racing to find her Papa.
Johnny turns to the side, cutting off Simon who was soon to speak again, in an attempt to stop his daughter.
“Elizabeth, sweetheart, wait a sec!” Johnny shouts, louder than intended when a small body careers into his side, brown curly hair bobbing at her shoulders when she crashes into his leg.
She looks at Simon and Simon looks at her. They both look like they’re figuring something out for just a moment before Elizabeth yells:

When she’s out of sight, Simon turns to face Johnny. The Scot is wearing a lovedrunk smile, and Simon can see the dilation in his pupils already.
“Downed some drinks already, huh?” Simon teases, putting his hands on Johnny’s waist.
“Aye,” Johnny giggles, eyes sparkling in the light.
Simon just rolls his eyes, rubbing his thumb against the fabric of Johnny’s flannel.
“Your mum loves Elo,” he tells Johnny, watching the way his boyfriend’s eyes light up at the news. “Told you,” he mumbles, but there’s a big smile on his face.
“Now c’mon,” Johnny slurs, taking Simon’s hands in his own. “Everyone wants to meet my boyfriend.” Johnny grins mischievously, tugging Simon towards the living room, where he can already see people waving at him. Simon just smiles, letting himself be tugged into a room full of love and happiness.
