Loud and displeasing to the ear, crying and wailing constantly, Giyuu didn’t understand how a coward such as Agatsuma Zenitsu could have ever reached a rank such as theirs, particularly without even so much as a shred of evidence regarding his skill.

    It was one of the very few things he and the other Hashira distinctly agreed upon. The boy did not belong. He was unfit to be a slayer, a protector. The boy was a liability, and now, every day he would disappear, up into the mountains of the prefecture they were in, in the middle of winter with Demons supposedly about.

    Omegas were well known for their patient, caring nature. They were sensitive souls— but that’s not to say they were weak. No, omegas were terrifying, especially when their pups were in danger.

    Shinazugawa’s blade dug through the box, stabbing into the demon, and the high-pitched wail that rang through the garden was unbearable.

    A pup was crying. Two pups were crying: Tanjiro and whatever was in that box.

    When a pup cried like this, usually their parents came running, no matter how far away they were. It was a cry for help, only used when in severe distress or danger.

    And for a second, nothing happened.

    Then all hell broke loose.

    Shinazugawa was sent flying, everyone else had fallen over in the process of whoever-it-was that’d rushed over. The box that contained the demon was placed down in front of that Kamado kid. The boy wrapped himself around it, protecting it with his own body as he sobbed.

    As their daze cleared, they all realized that it had been Tomioka to rush to the kid’s aid, reeking of distressed, enraged omega.

    But that didn’t make sense. Tomioka was a beta. Right?

    To say that they were confused was an understatement.

      “Kyojuro?” Hakuji breathes, his heart rate picking up. Warmth pools in his belly, a foreign sense of longing tingling through his body. He raises a hand to cup Kyojuro’s cheek, and Kyojuro closes his eye, leaning into his lover’s touch. He kisses Hakuji’s palm, his hand coming to rest gently on Hakuji’s waist. He is not asking about a bath, Hakuji realizes. Kyojuro’s spirit is aglow with love and a quiet, growing desire. The vulnerability in his expression takes Hakuji’s breath away.

      Kyojuro looks nervous. He looks beautiful.

      “My love,” Hakuji prompts. Kyojuro’s eye opens to look at him, and all of his walls are down. It is a silent invitation, one that Kyojuro is too shy to verbalize twice.

      Hakuji does it for him.

      “Can I?” He asks, voice quiet, and Kyojuro nods, leaning their foreheads together.

      “Yes,” Kyojuro breathes. “Yes, please.”

      Hakuji leans in slowly, and Kyojuro meets him halfway. They have kissed before, many times by now. But this feels different—it is different, every graze of their lips charged with intention and passion. Hakuji’s hands come to rest on Kyojuro’s shoulders as he tilts his chin, deepening the kiss.
