Summary
Of all the shitty members of Kent's family, Dylan had been the least shitty. They hadn't been close or anything, but apparently Dylan had trusted Kent more than anyone else, because here Kent was, outside an elementary school, picking up a child he hadn't seen in what, five years? Six?
Just before Kent's first season as captain of the Aces, his oldest step-brother dies, and Kent is left to care for his grieving nephew. When his deadbeat mother tries for custody of her grandson, Kent has to find a way to balance his own needs, the needs of the team, and the needs of a quiet six-year-old boy who is rapidly growing to feel like his son.

“I hope so. Sorry, I shouldn’t bother you at work about it, I’m just gonna fill the forms out like everybody else”, he grabs one of them from the counter. Ben shakes his head.
“You never bother me”, he says. Kent is not so sure about the state of his face all of the sudden. He fiddles with his cap, wishing he could pull it down to hide his expression.
“Good to know.” It’s an awkward reply. He shuffles back to his table with the form. When he sits down he notices that he has not ordered a drink. He also does not have a pencil. For a few seconds he sits silently in his chair, staring at the form. Then, someone nudges his elbow. When he looks up, he sees Ben with a pencil in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.
