Summary
They may not be the sharpest sword in the armoury, but Knuckles feels the weight of their ancestors. It sits upon their shoulders, constant pressure and pain. It acts as shackles, attached to each one of their limbs, a constant, unshakeable heaviness.
It’s that weight that makes one thing clear to Knuckles: since they are the only one left, it’s up to them to live up to the legacy set out before them.
They don’t know how their ancestors would react if they discovered the doubts they are having about their gender. No one else knows, but just thinking it to themself - that they are a they - sends their heart pounding ferociously against their ribcage.
Perhaps their ancestors would be okay with it, or perhaps they wouldn’t. Regardless, Knuckles is doing everything they can to make them proud in other ways, making up for their potential failures in the gender realm.Knuckles doesn't know what their ancestors would think of their gender, but, with the help of their friends, they're able to embrace themself regardless.

The tribe lived in peace and Harmony for generations. However all that changed when a group of echidna’s gathered together in hopes of harnessing the Chaos Crystals for their own malicious gain.
A war broke out between the tribe and this group, a war that lasted months. In the end only one echidna was left standing. A mere child. Not wanting the temptation of the crystals to cause any more violence he sent the crystals off into hiding, fusing a bit of his own mind and spirit with each crystal to act as their guardian. With his mind shattered he wouldn’t have survived if not for the crystals using their energy as they departed to send their guardian to an island he’d be safe and make new friends. -

He is hesitant about joining them but his mother convinces him. A few weeks after the arrangement, the echidna tribe and the chaos emerald suddenly disappeared without a trace.
No one knows what happened to them or the emeralds...
