Summary
Outerbanks.
A small town with frequent hurricanes, perfect swells for surfing on sweltering days, and where bonds are forged by marshes.
Golden rays, dunes, and recurring waves that kiss the shoreline lay sheltered mysteries beneath, the type that couldn’t be dug out, but bleeds out messily.
Paradise on Earth.

Summary
Because JJ had always wanted to live, it’s true. The reckless stunts. The large stakes. The bets he couldn’t back up. It had never been suicide; it had been living, the only way he knew how.
It’s not enough. It’s never been enough. Because JJ wanted to live, but in its stead, dying doesn’t seem so bad.

Summary
"I still hate you by the way," Jackson murmured, his voice a low, teasing rumble, laced with mock disdain. Instead of rising to the bait, she simply tightened her grip on his hair, her fingers still tangled in the soft strands. She pulled him back down, her lips finding his once more. "Shut up and kiss me," she whispered against his mouth, her voice husky with desire, a clear, unmistakable command. "Ha!" he exclaimed, a wide, genuine grin splitting his face. "I knew you liked it!"
OR- What if JJ Maybank was actually legitimately born Jackson Genrette (Groff), and just so happened to live across the street from Kiara Carrera, hot hippy activist/songwriter and his mortal enemy since they were six. And what if, after the worst betrayal of her life by her best friend and his cousin, Sarah Cameron, they form a subtle alliance, towing on the edge of friendship, with benefits. Surely, it won't have any complications.
A story heavily inspired by Better Than The Movies, One Day, and Normal People. In the span of 18 years.
—Originally titled “ Romance is not Dead (if you Keep it Just Yours)”

Summary
“Well, kid,” Shoupe‘s eyes are blue, though they don’t hold the rage of Luke Maybank, the desperation of Ward Cameron, the manipulation of Chandler Groff, or the distrust of JJ himself. They’re more open than JJ expects, gazing at him in a way that makes him nervous simply because it’s unfamiliar. “You’ve had a busy month, huh?”
“Not really.”
JJ’s lips quirk up before he can help himself. He tilts his head and raises a brow, “I think you might be forgetting an important detail there, Sheriff.”
Shoupe raises his brow and lifts his notebook, “According to your good friend Cleo, Chandler Groff ‘knifed him real good.’ That about cover it?”
OR
With the crew back in Kildare, JJ has some run-ins with the different fathers who have shaped his life.

Summary
Sometimes, JJ feels like he’s burning alive. Like there’s an ember, settled at the depths of his stomach, waiting for the wind to breathe it to life. An itch beneath his skin. Building and burning and waiting, waiting, waiting, until the flames are ready to fan. Until he can’t take it anymore.
OR: JJ's life flashes before his eyes, dying in his best friend's arms.

Summary
He stares. She stares back. Tilts her head.
“It figures,” JJ barks out a laugh – bitter and rough – and leans toward her, “the only time I’d get to see my mom is in my fucking head.”
He raises a brow at her, “Ya gonna say somethin’?”
He laughs harder when she frowns. He leans back on his hands. His left hand stings from the splinters. He leans harder onto it and stares up at the sky, “I guess I really have hit rock bottom, huh? When even my own fucked up head won’t talk to me.”
OR
On the ship to Morocco, things get much darker in JJ's head as he opens up to someone surprising.

Summary
The fresh morning air felt sharper among the ocean waves, yet there was no sensation more pleasant. Out there in the sea, it seemed like all the anxieties and worries that had built up over the past few days were being swept away by the current, far away, where sometimes he wished he could escape too. But in the water, he felt himself, and the connection with nature and its elements made him feel more alive than he ever felt anywhere else.

A story of who Larissa was and is, and how she formed JJ’s life and death. (Yes, it’s a fix-it.)

Summary
After being betrayed and locked in a mausoleum by Groff, JJ has a panic attack beside his mother’s open grave. He calls John B, who does his best to guide him through the initial panic, and the aftermath.
Or
An AU scene from Season 4, Episode 8, because there's no way JJ walked out of that mausoleum unscathed after being trapped with his mother's remains, and no escape in sight. In my opinion, the situation was a ticking time bomb for a full-blown panic attack.
