Anger sliced through Kurt like a hot knife. As his tail thrashed, he glanced between Logan and Laura, who was a few feet away from them. Her eyes, normally filled with rage, were wide.
Logan’s brows twitched, but he held his scowl. “I’m beyond help! Get the fuck outta here while you still can!”
Kurt gritted his teeth and stepped forward. “And what are you planning on doing if I don’t, hmm?”
“It’s not about what I do!” Logan scrubbed his hands through his messy hair. “It’s about what happens to everyone else!”

Kurt's eyes were nearly the only thing visible about him at the moment, the pale moon's light that would normally be streaming in through the window obscured by passing clouds. Even without the ability to read the other's expression, Logan knew that tone better than the sound of his own breathing; a mixture of genuine curiosity, bone-deep exhaustion, and the resignation of knowing this wouldn't be the last time.
Logan wished he had an answer to that question. Scratch that, he wished he had a different answer than what he knew to be the truth.

The newspaper by Kurt’s knee had half a sudoku filled out on it, with two nines in one row and a frustrated scribble.
“I’m not, actually,” Logan said; Kurt’s ear flicked, because she was speaking very quietly against the buzz of the clippers, and Logan’s mouth flickered into something like a smile before falling back to serious focus. “A lesbian.”

By noon, Kurt Wagner’s name was on every pair of cracked lips in town, if not further away already as well. It was spoken over whiskey shots and poker tables, and muttered by every man desperate for some easy gold. A dead-or-alive notice always drew the worst kind of hunters, the ones that didn't care about the alive part, even if it got them more money. It just wasn't worth the trouble.
Logan knew this, he was just like them.
He had spotted the poster as soon as he entered the saloon, and he let out a grunt as he snagged it off the wall. "Damn it." the paper crinkled in his grip as he looked at the drawing, recognizing the features of the outlaw before even reading the name written alongside it. A man like Kurt, with his striking looks, would be easy to recognize, even if he were to be hiding under the brim of his hat. Even if it weren't for him being blue.
