    Summary

Frightened of everything at Hogwarts, including the house-elves, eleven year old first-year witch, Fanny Price, finds herself crying bitterly in the kitchen.

Sixteen year old Edmund Bertram discovers her there. He comforts her and gives her parchment so she can write home to her favourite brother.

Also, Tom Bertram is a troublemaker and a Slytherin, because of course he is. And Hogsmeade has a payphone now, because that's a thing I randomly decided when I couldn't sleep at three in the morning.

(Now a two-shot, because how did I not think of adding this scene before? The cat's name is LITERALLY MRS. NORRIS!!!)

    Summary

Tom has a romantic plan to gain Susan Price's hand in marriage through a charming grand gesture; he's stolen one of her dancing slippers and everything! What could possibly go wrong?

Mr. Yates is a bit stuck on the particulars (shoe stealing is a declaration of love?) and doesn't quite get it.

Meanwhile, Lady Bertram's Pug just wants a new chew-toy to play with.

There's an actual offer of marriage in all that convoluted mess somewhere, isn't there?

    Summary

After accidentally running afoul of a witch in Antigua, Tom finds himself afflicted with a terrible curse, the first step toward breaking which is to find himself a wife; the last person he has in mind as a potential bride is his indigent, creepmouse cousin, Fanny Price, but when he realises his family is trying to pressure her into marrying Henry Crawford (and she apparently doesn't want to), he sees an opportunity for a mutually beneficial arrangement.

If she marries him instead, and breaks his curse, he'll protect her from unwanted advances elsewhere and provide for her financially for the rest of her life.

Fanny accepts his offer, despite several vehement objections, truly that desperate to be safe from Mr. Crawford and to help her afflicted cousin.

There is one rule by which Fanny must abide, but Tom imagines he's in safe enough hands with her.

After all, Fanny, trustworthy and constant, would never break faith with anyone, never flout anybody's rules. (But what if, one night, she does?)

"Even if offered 20,000 pounds to risk it, Nanny wouldn't have let Tom hold a stranger's baby. She had seen him almost drop his sister, poor Baby Julia, upon her head once.

But Edmund in a confined, safe place such as this, might be all right."

A seven-year-old Edmund Bertram, travelling post with Nanny and his brother Tom, holds a stranger's crying baby while in the carriage.

    Summary

    "Pretend you're Fanny a moment."

"How'm I meant to do that?"

Edmund plans to make Fanny an offer of marriage, and he asks his brother Tom to listen to his proposal to ease his nerves. Only, Tom is something of a method actor (as well as an objectively bad one) and his attempt at being a stand in for Fanny Price seems to make it even worse.
