Summary
He needs to get some air and stop thinking, he wants to enjoy for a moment the new life that awaits them, to calm the furious beating of his heart, to convince his brain that Damian is okay and that he hasn't really lost him, as he believed for a long moment up there in the galaxy above them. But when he turns the corner, Jon sees Damian's figure, his right arm in a cast, the crutch under his left armpit, and the bandage covering half his face, hiding the scars on his cheeks and the scar that marked his right eye.
"D?" Jon's eyes widen and he runs up to him, putting a hand around his waist to support him in light of his friend's limp gait. "What are you doing up? You need to rest!" Jon's tone is urgent, maybe even angry, but Damian doesn't seem to mind, just slapping a hand on his forearm.
"I'm fine. It's not like I'm dying," Damian retorts, and Jon tightens his lips and thins his eyelids, resisting the urge to headbutt him.
"I wouldn't joke if I were you, 'cause that's exactly what you were going to do." -

Moments that remind him that he was never just a weapon in the hands of the Al Ghuls, but a human being. He wants to be more than that, he wants to become the adult he has always needed without knowing it, he wants to follow in the footsteps of his father and brothers and hear them say they are proud of him. But it's at night, when all is quiet now and the body finally gets some rest, that his weary mind returns to the task and grinds horror upon horror, reminding him of what has been and what will always be.

Summary
Come to think of it, it was the first time since they had begun their relationship a year ago that Jon had in charge of such a thing, a gesture he considered even more intimate than making love; it meant relying completely on someone, and for a young man like Damian, trained since childhood to never let his guard down and to always be on the alert, leaving his own throat uncovered - and at the mercy of someone else - was a gesture of extreme trust.

Come to think of it, maybe it was also the fact that Jon had never made any snap judgments about Damian's past or his behavior; they had struck up a friendship - no matter how long it had been a few years, it was still strange to call it that - and Jon had supported him even in critical moments, so it was only right that Damian reciprocated. He had never cared for anyone, had never even remotely thought that he could have feelings for anyone, and yet Jon had done the impossible.

"Okay, Mr. Detective, what about the way they interact when they are alone? And, no, don't answer to that," Clark quickly silenced him. "I don't know if you've noticed the way they look at each other when, well, they're doing homework or sitting around watching a movie or playing games. They're always looking for eye contact, looking at each other, smiling, and then pretending to look away..."
"Let's stalk them."
Clark was about to add more - and perhaps point out to Bruce that they were poking each other more than usual - when that one word hit him like a bucket of ice water. "What?" he choked on his own saliva, but Bruce blinked.
"I thought you had super-hearing?"
"No, I mean, what's wrong with you?"
"It's the most effective and quickest way I know of to find out what we want to know, and especially to see if your assumptions and doubts are well-founded."
Clark didn't know what to say; he just gasped like a fish out of water before massaging his temples. "You know, B, I'm starting to regret bringing you into this." -

Bruce had noticed that Damian had become more affable, socializing much more than usual at the charity evenings, and it was not uncommon to see him surrounded by beautiful young girls who seemed to hang on his every word, and Bruce, he admitted, couldn't help but wonder if any of them were interested in or dating his son. Damian had never exactly given the impression that he wanted to jump headlong into a relationship, but there was no question that he seemed very comfortable when he was around them.

"I was thinking about watching a movie tonight, how do you want your pizza, son?" Bruce asked him quickly, and Damian stopped his run only to look over the doorframe and give him a quick glance.
"I'm not eating at home. I'm going out."
Bruce gasped. Did he really hear what he heard? "You're going out? What do you mean, you're going out?"
"What I said. Don't wait for me, Father."
"Wait, Damian, what-!" -

Summary
He had even considered to fly around the globe to relieve his stress, but he had been caught by his brother Conner before he could even step outside the farmhouse door.
Not that he had changed his mind, no, sir. He was about to get married and he really wanted to do it - if he didn't want to, he would have had no reason to say that fateful "Yes" - and yet, from the moment his mother had brought him the dress and his father had handed him Grandpa Jonathan's old cufflinks, some sort of self-defense mechanism had been triggered in Jon's mind that had literally sent him into a complete panic. -

Summary
Ever since he'd discovered he had superpowers and confronted that alien parasite named Starro, there hadn't been a moment when he hadn't trembled in anticipation of an SOS or a simple night of patrolling in Robin's company; they'd discovered they made a great team, Damian wasn't as much of a jerk as he wanted everyone to believe, and Jon had been able to see past the saccharine mask he wore most of the time, so spending time in his company wasn't all that unpleasant. The only bad thing about it was that such situations, moments of absolute normality to be spent between school desks, had become rather boring due to the fresh novelty of his powers. He had even begun to dress less ostentatiously, opting for plain sweaters or T-shirts with the Superman logo barely visible, all to keep a low profile and avoid raising suspicion. Sure, wearing the glasses had made a difference, but Jon wasn't so sure they worked miracles, and up to that point he'd only been labeled a "nerd" despite being on the baseball team. But it didn't matter. He could take a little teasing from Melvin as long as it didn't land him in the principal's office again.

He had just finished making a regular cappuccino and greeted Mr. Clint when the doorbell rang again and Jon straightened up to greet the new customer, gaping at the sight of who had just entered: wearing a pair of gold-rimmed sunglasses, a smart jacket over a black turtleneck, pants that hugged his long, slender legs, and shiny oxfords on his feet, Damian looked around and flashed one of his seraphic smiles as he approached, stopping right in front of Jon, who stared at him in disbelief with such an expression that for a moment he feared he might dislocate his jaw.
"What are you doing here?" he asked out of the blue, and Damian took off his glasses only to look at him and blink as if nothing had happened.
"I was craving coffee, and this is a coffee shop," he said in a tone so obvious that for a moment Jon wished he could tell his best friend to go to hell.
"Yeah, okay, but... why here?"
Damian chuckled pleasantly. Jon hated it when he put on his rich son of a dad mask. "Because there's a sign outside that says you're open, maybe?"
"You expect me to believe you drove all the way to Smallville just for coffee?"Series

"Jon."
Though he wouldn't have wanted to, Jon literally jumped and a startled exclamation escaped his lips, which he could not stop in time. "Jesus, D! You scared the hell out of me!" he blurted out, putting a hand to his chest, but Damian, after coming down from his hiding place in the dim light with a graceful leap, blinked as if nothing had happened.
"I thought you had super hearing?" he said, ignoring his friend's glare.
"Not for your ninja moves, apparently!" Jon squealed.
"I'm not a ninja."
"Whatever. In the meantime, you've managed to - wait, what are you doing here?" he realized as he opened his mouth in disbelief, and Damian only hinted at one of his usual seraphic grins.
"You said the Talon would always be open to me."Series

"Three months since we've seen each other and this is how you greet me, Kent?" Damian retorted with an arched eyebrow, unceremoniously dropping one suitcase to grab the other, but after rolling his eyes, it was Jon himself who grabbed it before he could do it himself.
"Wait until we get home and see how I'm going to greet you," she teased in a whisper in his ear, glancing at him briefly to enjoy the initial confusion on Damian's face, which had turned red to the tips of his ears. Abstinence, what an ugly beast. Usually, it was the former robin himself who would nag him about the sexual side of their relationship, so seeing that expression on his face amused him in no small way. Besides, you never said no to a little sex after all this time. "Candlelight dinner, a A relaxing bath, a massage and to top it off... cuddling in the room," cuddling being his slang for sex, on closer inspection. "Complete with marshmallows in the coffee for breakfast the next day." -

Summary
"The blood..." Damian whispered through clenched teeth, scrambling to his feet as he made his way to the front door, leaning against the wall to his right. "My hands... are stained with blood..."
"Jon, what..."
"I don't know, Mom," Jon admitted, coming closer.
Damian had never suffered from somnambulism, but he knew never to wake people up in that state, so he tried to move slowly, making as little noise as possible and avoiding noises that were too loud, trying to find out what was wrong with him; for a terrible moment, Jon feared that he had once again become detached from reality, dissociated from it, just as he had in the early days of living with the loss of his leg. He didn't want Damian to fall into a catatonic state again, did not want to see him shut down or lose himself, did not want him to go where he could not reach him or help him.
"I have to wash them...I can't touch my son with blood on my hands," Damian said again as he fell to his knees, rubbing his hands furiously, repeating the words over and over under the worried eyes of Jon and Lois. "The heretic will never have my son, the League... the League..."Series
