Summary
Jaedys White Bear of the Inupiat was forced over six centuries ago, by the Goddess Kuushoii, Mother of Winter, to take as many of her people as she could south to Jean-Claude's territories to save them from the coming menace. Only half of her tribe heeded Kuushoii's warning and followed her. Now, however, Jaedys has returned with Minseros, her lover, and some of her descendants to find out what, if anything, has happened to the rest of the tribe who wouldn't follow her.
Meanwhile, Torh and Mo'o Pisin Oam are carrying out Szghe'ron's orders to root out anyone who might have a link to the living vampire in this northern, frigid land, though their methods differ greatly. Now, because of Torh's harsh methods, Mo'o Pisin Oam is having a crisis of faith with everything he's done to date, along with whether he should have followed Szghe'ron into this new life.
