Summary
“Don’t- I…” Morse groaned from his place next to the wall. Even in the dim light, Max could see a gentle trickle of blood from where Morse’s brow had collided with the wall. Morse raised a shaking hand to his now wet forehead. “My head…”
“Yes, you’ve hit your head,” Max said as he crouched, wary of getting too close, given Morse’s previous reaction to his touch. “How about I take you to the lab and stitch you up, hm? Then I’ll give you a lift home.”
After Dr DeBryn finds Morse injured and disorientated by the side of a road in the dead of night, the two of them struggle to retrace Morse's steps to uncover what had happened to him that night.
How can Morse investigate what happened to him when there are parts of it that he can't even bear to verbalise?

Summary
Jakes drew himself up to his full height and took a threatening step forward, one hand clutching the cigarette too tightly, and the other resting on his cutlass. If anything, this only spurred the brat on further.
"Go ahead" Morse said, gesturing at the weapon, "Let's see how well that works out for you".
He took a deep breath, tried to block out unhelpful thoughts of stormy sea eyes, and forced himself to remain somewhat calm.
"The second we reach land, you're off my ship!"
"The second we see land, I’ll swim!"Or, the one where everyone's a pirate.

Summary
Morse is an easy target in Castlegate, the bore in the basement, as Jago calls him. Ronnie laughs with the rest of them, relishing in how far down the pretentious, self-righteous, and arrogant little sergeant has been sent. It's all harmless fun, he reasons, and barely gives it a second thought. Ronnie shrugs off as Jago hands Morse dead-end calls and small-time cases, jobs that should go to DCs or even PCs. They're short handed anyway, so who cares so long as the job gets done?
Until Cranmer House.
Ronnie stands in the ruins of a hundred family homes, and realises they have one man missing - and it might be all his fault.
What if Morse had arrived before the tower collapsed? There's hundreds of people to evacuate, and Morse isn't leaving until he sees every one of them out - or dies trying.

Summary
Jakes has spent the past five years regretting leaving Morse behind the way he did. It's a regret that's repeating itself today, as he wades through Jim's wedding in Morse's place, and Morse goes off to Blenheim Vale to save the day. Alone. As always.
It had made sense this morning, Morse needed someone he could trust to keep an eye on the wedding, as he headed off to broker a stand-down. It makes less sense to him now, as the day draws to a close, and Morse is yet to make an appearance. Peter sets off to find him, and hopes he isn't too late.
It all comes back to Blenhaim Vale. It always does.

Summary
“Ah, Sergeant.” He started to smile, then stopped when it pulled on his swollen lip. Someone had really worked the lad over. Blood had crusted around his nose and mouth, and one eye was rapidly swelling and bruising. He held himself stiffly, his knuckles and kneecaps scraped raw. God help anyone who had done that to his Sam. “I was wondering how long it would take them to listen.”
“Listen here, boy –“ Jones growled, loud enough that even the prefects were startled. Fred stepped between teacher and student. To his credit, Frazil hadn’t so much as flinched.
“I’ll take it from here, Mr Jones.” He spoke amicably, and thanked the prefects. They scurried away, and a heartbeat later, Jones was gone too, swearing to himself. Frazil watched him leave, breathing out slowly. “Take a seat, lad.”
Fred Thursday is called out to investigate a fight at a nearby boarding school. Dev Frazil, however, is much more interested in the goings on of Oxford City Police.
