The last thing Obi-Wan remembers is resting his head against a sandy cliff, extending his awareness out into the force in a deep meditation as he brushes over the faint force presence of Luke, playing outside his home. Anakin’s son. The one person left in the galaxy depending on Obi-Wan. He can’t let anything happen to the boy, if anything happens to him-
But nevermind Obi-Wan’s worries. How is he here? Is it a dream, a hallucination conjured by Obi-Wan’s lack of water? Is Anakin going to attack him?
'I hate you!!!'
The words ring in his ears, and Obi-Wan flinches as Anakin moves.
Anakin. The one in his… hallucination. There’s no other explanation.~
Or Obi-Wan gets pulled from his time whilst watching Luke, and ends up in his rooms. At the Jedi Temple. Next to his former apprentice.

“What?” Anakin stared at his master in front of him, confused and apprehensive. “What are you talking about, Obi-Wan...?”
“Oh Force... maybe you never used to be.”
Obi-Wan doesn’t know why everything was taken out of his life, but now he has a new chance and he won’t waste it. The big problem is: How can he face his former Padawan knowing about the future Sith Lord he will one day become?

I wrote this in response to an idea from the Star Wars Minute podcast, about the exact circumstances around Luke Skywalker leaving Tatooine. It is extremely dark, but all the nastiness is implied. It fits in with the canon of Episode IV, but suggests off-screen events that make the canon story appear in a very different light.

I posted this many years ago on FanFiction.net, and after writing another short fic I decided to post the whole lot here. This one is an imagining of the cantina scene from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, using the original scene's dialogue but focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi's viewpoint and explaining what 'twelve parsecs' might have actually meant. Of course, Solo invalidated this interpretation of 'twelve parsecs', but I still liked the breakdown of how the negotiations went, especially because it made Obi-Wan seem a lot more cunning and ruthless than he first appears.
