Spencer makes no move to get off the bed. His movements stop somewhere above Derek, and then he feels a weight pressing slowly and considerately onto him as his boyfriend apparently mistakes him for the mattress.
Derek opens his eyes, exhaling through his nose. Spencer shuffles, half-asleep, somehow managing to get even closer as if he thinks it's possible to merge with Derek if he just tries hard enough.
"You okay?"
"Mm." Spencer's eyes are still closed, his hands fumbling in the dark until they find the hem of Derek's shirt and slip underneath it. "Y'r warm."

He and Spencer hadn’t had sex in so long. That definitely wasn’t the only thing in their relationship that mattered to Derek – frankly, he was pretty sure he could live the rest of his life without sex if that was how Spencer wanted it – but it was killing him knowing that they both wanted to get it on, as his babygirl would say, and they couldn’t. Derek sighs. He’s never been one to dance around a subject like this, and he’s not sure why he’s starting now. It can’t be that he’s scared. “She shouldn’t have said that,” he says finally. No more bullshit.
This, apparently, is all the dam needed to break. Spencer sets his mug back on the coffee table hard enough that a bit of the tea splashes over the side and onto one of Spencer’s hands. He doesn’t even seem to notice the pain, though, rising from his place on the couch and starting to pace around the room.
“I can’t believe she—” He pushes his hands through his hair. “Mourned the loss of six, what is that supposed to mean? She didn’t mourn anyone, she knew we were alive, she knew she’d get to see us again if we caught Doyle. We thought she was dead.” He scoffs. “Or, most of us thought she was dead.”
OR: spencer's friendships with jj and emily are falling apart. derek is just trying to hold them all together while silently wrestling with his own complicated feelings. it's fine. he's fine.

Usually, Derek has associated that with his obvious jump in education as a kid, never really interacting with peers, finding most of his social involvement in adults, teachers, professors.
