"Greetings your highness." Eiji crooned with a pleasant trill of his voice. He bent his knees in a small curtsy, bowing his head in a curt manner.
"Eiji Okumura." The man himself called, voice thunderous in the quiet. "Why am I not surprised to see you here?"

It's been a few years since I first read this and it's still as good as I remember. Arsinoe de Blassenville writes with the skill of a professional author, with excellent plot, pacing, characterisation and world-building. Ferelden comes alive under her pen as a land with its layers of history. Also, Arsinoe had came up with a very plausible and well thought-out backstory as to why Loghain seems to have done some pretty unheroic things we figured out in the game - something that doesn't seem to square with his past reputation as the Hero of River Dane.
Maude Cousland is a very efficient Grey Warden warrior with a magpie's wandering eye; she loots corpses and cleans buldings with indiscriminate fervour and the speed and stealth of assassins. For all the madcap adventures that she drags the readers into (along with an overwhelmed and unprepared Loghain), there are many hard and sober truths underneath. Her love of loot is very reasonable; how else was she going to support and pay her company without a penny of pay from Grey Warden Central? And was it any surprise that someone who had seen their parents killed in front of them along with several other gruesome things would have survived with some cracks in their sanity? (Broodmothers, anyone?)
But she will save Ferelden and Thedas, because everyone else is too self-absorbed to realise the threat that the Blight and darkspawn poses to everyone. Even if she has to knock the world over its head and drag it away limply from its own stupidity, she will do it.
At 427,000-ish word, this work is immense. The plot seems to have trailed off and paused at the last sub-arc than properly finished, but I suppose if we're tying to cover the plot of several games and novels, it could have easily reached a million words. I don't blame Arsinoe for legging it out at that point and moving on to seriously write original fiction.
