“Uh,” he said, because clearly his eloquence had abandoned him during one of the cycles, “yes?”
// OR, circumstance leads to the heirs thinking Phainon only lived through thirty-three cycles. Rather than correcting them on this, Phainon doubles down and decides this is the new narrative he'll go along with so as to avoid worrying them too much.

After Kafka and March's near-death experiences from an exploding station to an unknown world. Kafka was left alone, after Elio ejected her from the Stellaron Hunters. Luckily for her the Astral Express Crew have offered her a place aboard the Express. However, she is still bed-bound after what March and her went through and unfortunately, there is only one planet which will have the supplies they need to get her back on her feet. A planet so dangerous that the Stellaron Hunters have avoided going back there since Kafka was recruited by Elio. But fate always would bring her back. To Pteruges V.

he started noticing things. Small things. The way the triplets squealed when they made a simple dish. The way Anaxa wove alchemy into everything he did, life blossoming at his fingertips. How purple peonies and lilacs sprouted followed Castorice, creating a beautiful violet trail.
The last straw was when he watched Cyrene sing and skip around her garden, and the flowers responding to her voice. And then it hit him.
His hobbies...he could no longer pursue them them because of who he was now

Phainon trails kisses across the swell of Mydei’s bump, slow and deliberate, as though trying to worship every inch. He then presses his forehead and nose flat against the omega’s belly, and silently stays like that for some moments before speaking, “I swear that if I focus hard enough, I can smell her scent.”
Mydei lets out a soft, skeptical laugh. “Oh? And what does she smell like?”
“Hmm, like you…and me,” he says thoughtfully. His gaze lifts, meeting Mydei’s, only to find him studying him with raised brows. The alpha laughs sheepishly and admits, “Okay, I can’t smell her very well.”
“Yeah, clearly.”

“I agree,” said Dan Heng, stepping up beside Khaslana. Raising a brow, he continued, “If I remember Hyacine’s words correctly, didn’t she say your metabolism was running low, and you shouldn’t be walking long distances without supervision? Or at least have something to eat on hand, in case your energy dips and you get lightheaded halfway through?”
Those sharp teal eyes bore deep into his dull blue ones, and Khaslana found himself shying away from his gaze, the tips of his ears growing warm. Sometimes he tended to forget the Vidyadhara helped out at the Courtyard, and he had a record of almost every patient entrusted to him by Hyacine herself. Plus, he was currently staying with them for a week and a half while the Express was away on an emergency run.
One and a half weeks. And Dan Heng had only arrived two days ago. Khaslana couldn't shake off the nervous energy in him.
