Summary
The X-Men and all of mutantkind have survived one of their greatest crises, with the cruel machinations of Cassandra Nova being defeated. Mutantkind has the opportunity, once more to flourish. Scott Summers has established an ambitious agenda, not just for superheroics and mutant education, but embracing an economic, social and political agenda aimed at making mutants indispensable to the world. Distinct from but also integrated with the rest of humanity.
However, several threats remain on the horizon. The mysterious Orchis Protocols are beginning to be engaged as the organization takes shape. The immortal mutant warlord Apocalypse will establish himself as the god-king of a mutant planet. Mr. Sinister continues his scheming to advance mutantkind as he sees fit, from the shadows. This brave new world will not be one that is created easily, or without a price.
