Summary
The Transcendent Moon is a tale of gothic horror, and two broken people finding comfort in each other in a world suffering from a supernatural plague.
Jean Kirstein is a Salvationer, a specially trained soldier who hunts down the Grotesque; twisted beasts that arise during the resurgence of an ancient plague. With their ankle length coats and oversized weapons, Salvationers work in bonded pairs. Tied together by an ancient ritual, each pair share emotions and are granted superhuman strength. But Jean's partner is dead, and his new one is useless.
In the spiraling streets of a fog shrouded city, they face dangerous monsters, a mysterious order with plans of their own, and a supernatural enemy as terrifying as it is tragic. Jean and his new partner have to overcome their broken pasts and learn to work together, or they will not survive the approaching storm.
All too soon, Reiner would learn that the scent of his lover fades, along with the precious memories and the beloved lines of his face.

Floch Forster's house party is not the place that Reiner Braun would typically find himself, but there is a certain charm to the red solo cups brimming with beer and the thrall of music that's way too loud only compensated by Floch's incredibly rich father. Spotting his partner in crime and best friend slumped in the corner, he approaches the wallflower, "Hell are you doing over here, Bertholdt?!?"
"Much less than you are," he whispers into his cup and while he had caught a glimpse of the liquid inside enough to assume that it was the vodka-teamed punch, he would also know Bertholdt is intoxicated by the lavish tone of his voice. He sounds too smug for their usual shy friend.
"Then again, I'm not staring at Leon Kennedy's ass or the way that Sleeping Beauty's dress falls."

Normally Reiner doesn’t let people get under his skin, but Porco really has a unique way of getting him to ignore his best judgment. The bet was simple, really, and classic. Straight out of a cheap thriller. Spend the night in the haunted house without screaming and running away, and Reiner wins. They didn’t discuss what, exactly, they were betting. Reiner guesses if he wins it’ll be bragging rights and if he loses it’ll be his new car.
No matter. He just won’t lose. It'll be easy, maybe even fun.
