Summary
They reach the safe house some twenty minutes later. Sam is plagued by uncomfortable thoughts the whole drive. He replays the whole tense encounter over in his head and finds the same fear waiting for him. He had come too close to loosing Bucky for comfort and the situation was bringing up all the thoughts he’d been trying to push down and hide for the last few months. All the feelings of affection for the other man that he’d been in denial of. Because the truth was, that he’d developed a crush on Bucky that was starting to creep into feelings of actual love. Ever since they had started to work in a team with Zemo, Bucky had started to act different. He smiled a bit more, he laughed sometimes, he joked around with them and shared his feelings more. Seeing this other, more personable side to Bucky had awoken things in him that he had thought were dead and buried along with Riley and that terrified him. He wasn’t sure he was ready to take the chance of caring about someone only to be rejected or risk loosing them. It was really the only thing he feared – loosing the people he loved. The fear plagued him with Sarah and the boys and now it haunted him with Bucky
