Summary
It was a quiet night, the bugs of the summer winding down in favor of the oppressive silence of the colder months, not that Geoffrey was complaining; it was a lot easier to hear the silent disturbance of a leech shadow jumping when it was quiet than if hundreds of cicadas were screaming in his ears. However, the night didn't stay quiet for long. It started with a quiet rumble in the distance, one that McCullum first thought was a particularly loud car, but the longer he spent outside, the louder and more frequently the sound occurred. It wasn't supposed to storm, Geoffrey grumbled to himself, but there was no mistaking the thunder rumbling over London. So, the hunter did the only thing he could do; he ignored it.

Summary
The primary emotion that Jonathan felt was panic. McCullum had told him about his own uncanny alter ego: the confrontation, the futile attempts to convince his guard that he, McCullum, was their true leader, and not the impostor. Despite that, Jonathan hadn’t spared a thought to the idea that the Cain to his own Abel could be running about London, let alone that he could be full of murderous, horrifying power.
-Jonathan Reid is a scientist; he doesn't believe in magic. But he can find no rational explanation for the fact that after his battle with Doris Fletcher, he has found himself in an alternate world he barely recognizes: one where his mother is dead, and a monstrous, sadistic vampire has ripped apart the fragile life he has built since his transformation. Worse, the monster in question happens to be a looking-glass version of himself who has fully embraced his evil side. Jonathan's only way out is to join with Geoffrey McCullum, but even if he can talk the vampire hunter into working with him, defeating this crueler, more powerful version of himself might still prove impossible.

Summary
'Note: Reduced appetite has been observed. Though Geoffrey continues his smoking habit, it has lessened considerably, also. Seems to go a day or more without significant meals? Or at least, will eat when prompted, but is no longer hungry? At least not as often as he should be. Confirmed, lack of appetite.’
Geoffrey tried not to allow the rising panic to claim him. He held it back. Some of this, he already knew. Some of it, he had heard from Reid before. Some of it, he would have noticed, had he been paying attention. Had he not been in denial. He knew he should have died. Time and time again, he’d suffered a lot in the past, wounds that had taken months to recover from, but nothing like the ones he’d suffered in the past year. The blood loss alone should have taken him out, more than once.
*
Their lives had been irrevocably changed, by the ignorant deeds of more than a year ago now, when Geoffrey had been foolish enough to drink a tincture, hoping to defeat his enemy. Making them into something other. Though Dr Reid had promised to find out what it meant to drink the Blood of a King, nothing could prepare them for the changes to come, sometimes, ignorance really was bliss.Series
