Summary
In another time, in another reality, humanity had been woefully unprepared for the reality of their galaxy. Their leaders had hidden the existence of extraterrestrial life until war broke out. The knowledge of the cycle was buried deep until Commander Shepard ripped it from the cold, soulless jaws of Nazara The Sovereign. Yet this is illogical and impossible. Such a grand conspiracy would take the willing silence of millions and eventually billions. Amateur radio enthusiasts could stumble across the evidence of the great cycle raging across the heavens. And so our story begins with a divergence, one that may seem small but will have consequences that touch upon all aspects of human history.

This is an edit of a story I wrote back in 2019, and was originally based on the Natalia Kills song of the same name. The timeline is from Liar of the Shadow Broker to the end of ME2, ME3 content is now contained in another fic. Apologies to those who have been waiting for this, I didn't intend to take so long to re-upload it!

Shepard climbs from the ignominy of slavery to the universe's spotlight.

The air was hot, the music loud and the lights pulsing. The club might have been heaviny, but it was also the perfect place for the crew of the Normandy to unwind after returning from the Omega Nebula. The mission may have been a success, but it had still been stressful, and Jayne Shepard... Alliance captain and Council spectre... needed the shore leave just as much as her crew did. She'd propped up the bar most of the evening, flirting up a storm with the turian bartender she was certain she would be taking home; until a distinctive, rainbow scaled drell caught her attention.
