Rumor had it that he was a descendant of Holmes himself.
Ron was exceptional at everything, always scoring the highest grades in the academy. Even in his first year, his reputation had spread like wildfire. His deductions were razor-sharp and always accurate. Everyone, including Toto, knew that the moment Ron graduated, he would become a world-renowned detective.
“Mother asked me to give you this,” Ron said, holding out a neatly packed lunchbox.
Oh, and Ron was also Toto’s childhood friend.

Dust motes swirled in the sunbeam shining through Toto’s bedroom window. It illuminated the single lump on the bed. Beneath the covers Toto was curled up in a tight ball, snoring softly. It was a soft, warm weekend morning. When Toto awoke, he would realize it was his birthday. And like last year, he and the entire group would get together and celebrate.
It might have been a sweet scene.

Dark hair, now damp from the melted snow, clung in soft strands to his forehead. His lashes were long, casting faint shadows on his pale skin. The curve of his jaw was sharp despite his weakened state. Even in such a condition, he was striking, like a figure carved from stone and softened only by exhaustion.
“What’s someone like you doing out here… in the middle of the woods, in this weather?” Totomaru whispered, frowning as he wrung out the cloth again, his hands trembling slightly.
