Summary
“Zabel’s back,” Trammel announced the obvious out of pure relief.
“I see that,” Mare remarked, leaning against her doorway, raising an eyebrow at him. “Can I see you for a minute, Zabel?”
“Yes, Detective Sergeant Sheehan, you can.” He nodded professionally, acknowledging her authority even if he wasn’t below it anymore, rapping his knuckles lightly against Trammel’s desk. “Duty calls. Good to see all of you.”
He walked through the river of chairs, looking at each individual with a nod of acknowledgment. Mare turned, walking deeper into her office with the expectation that he followed. He didn’t disappoint, stepping through the threshold and shutting the door. But the blinds remained open, either an oversight on her part or entirely deliberate.
When prying eyes watched Colin lean in and kiss her, meeting no resistance and instead complete reception, it all clicked exactly why he’d returned on his lunch break.
Now they were all sure they’d be seeing him around quite a bit more.
