Rook’s seated at the edge of the chaise as he eases the door open, elbows on her knees and her shoulders curved inwards. Her head rests against laced fingers, turned away, towards the water. If she hears him come in, she gives no sign.
His legs won't move. Spite doesn't even bother waiting to argue it; he’s halfway across the space between them before the edges of his form have solidified, reaching for her with an outstretched hand that halts to hover just above her shoulder. Rook, he sighs, but it doesn’t feel like relief.
“I cannot believe we found you,” he says.

A hollow victory, that’s what Rook is left with as the Veil slowly begins to fix itself, as Morrigan and the Inquisitor scurry off to help with those still fighting the now leaderless army. Her friends and companions- as strong and ready as they could have been- were killed one after another in this battle. In the end, she alone stood screaming over Elgar’nan’s corpse as Lucanis and Bellara succumbed to the wounds that the blighted false god gave them.
So much was lost. Too much.
She had to fix it.

“I’m going to kill you, you piece of shit,” Rook tells him, and shifts on their knees to face him. Solas laughs.
They hadn’t realized it would feel like this, seeing him again. The ball of grief that has made itself home in their chest goes supernova; their rage white-hot.
“No need for the expletives.” Solas’ indiference is like kindling. Rook lunges forward, tries to grab his ankle and trip it, and the pressure increases. They clench their teeth until it aches. “Please, Rook. Let us have a civilized conversation.”
Rook laughs. “You’ve never been civil in your fucking life, wolf,” they say. Something glints in his waist—he’s clipped the dagger to his belt, and it glimmers with its own light. There is a quiet hum coming from it, that beautiful lyrium song.

“A mage should be unnerved by a mage killer.” Lucanis’ response was equally soft, lacking the usual bristle of hostility that protected him. Whilst there was no traditional way of tracking time in the Lighthouse, it was definitely long after midnight and both men were simply tired.
“Not this mage, I hope.” Shifting in his seat, Emmrich stretched his arms out, bangles and rings glimmering in the flickering light from the fireplace. “Not after… Everything.” When he raised his eyes to look at Lucanis they were ringed with dark circles - almost bruises on his pale skin. They look hollow. Haunted. Lucanis knew he didn’t look any better.
“No, Emmrich. Not this mage. Coffee?” Habit. Safety. Security. Make coffee, take each step one at a time and perform the ritual to push back the thoughts crowding inside his skull. His hands were perfectly steady as he pulled the beans down from the shelf, each step a familiar routine as he ground them, releasing their heady scent. -
