Sanji had never expected for his past to come after him, not when it was left quite clear that he was unwanted as he was. One day, while strolling with Zoro at a market, he overheard three men talking about bringing down the feared Germa Kingdom. The sudden fear that coursed through his veins begged him to hide, to not let his crew get caught up in his own affairs, not when it could cause them harm. Yet, despite all the precautions he took, he was still captured, and it’s up to the Straw Hats to bring their dear cook back home.

Zoro finally turned around to face Sanji. His shirt unbuttoned and one of the mango pits Sanji had set aside for himself in his hand. There was a tiny quirk to his eyebrows, like he wasn’t expecting Sanji to be back this soon. But what was the most surprising was the mango pieces and juice that was covering the lower half of his face. The mosshead had been suckling on the mango pits that Sanji was saving for himself in secret.

“Fuck you Zoro!” Sanji yells, then makes a dramatic gurgling sound like he’s drowning.
“Don’t worry Sanji, I’ll stretch real long and grab you!” Luffy calls, jumping down as well and dragging Sanji by the arm up to the ladder. He climbs up first then looks down at Sanji, who grips the metal ladder hard, trying his best to seem half drowned, “You’re safe now,” Luffy whispers, the quietest he’s been all day. “Cause you’re mine and I always make sure my people are safe.”
He holds out his hand.
Sanji takes it.
or: The Strawhats play make-believe, but the awful parts of life are still very real, as are the things in the woods.

Summary
Exhaustion was beginning to become a constant companion to the poor cook of the Straw Hat Pirates. Sanji hadn't slept in weeks. Even after Wano, the memories of his childhood as the youngest child of the Vinsmokes has begun to haunt him through every night. Constantly woken by the visions and sounds of his family trying to destroy his nakama with beatings and hollow words, there was only so much his broken mind could take.
Unfortunately, Sanji stumbled on one solution that helps. But, no matter what, he's not willing to put himself through it. Cuddling with a crewmate was one thing, being held by Zoro of all people was another. So, deciding that he'd take some time on their next island to sort his head out and find some rest, Sanji was not ready for what was in store for their crew.
A new island only meant trouble and life altering decisions that could mean the end of Sanji's lifelong dream, or the beginning of a brand new adventure.
