This is a fan novelisation of the game MOTHER 2/Earthbound with my own touch, so there will be more focus on character development, and there will be a few reinterpretation of events. There will be some links to MOTHER 1/Earthbound Beginnings too, so feel free to read this, whether you're familiar with the story or not.
This is my first attempt to write fanfiction, and definitely the first time for me to start such a huge project, so feedback is deeply appreciated.

Summary
The year is 200X. All is devastation. Giygas conquered Earth and took it over, and then the Pigmasks came. Escape off Earth is near impossible. Everything is in the slow process of dying. And yet, the Apple of Enlightenment says this still be fixed.
A human-turned-beetle, a rebel Pigmask, a nice old Wooly Shambler and a curious Blue Starman are the ones that decide to try and make what the Apple of Enlightenment says come true.
There’s always a way out of the darkness. Even if things are bleak, there always is.

It had been so long since anyone had touched Niiue, and he was lonelier still with all of his friends launched into time, not knowing when they'd return. All he wanted was a quick tryst without strings attached. It was fine, he could blow off some steam and get back on track.
(It wasn't fine for Giegue, learning too late that their mental bond, which had gone silent when they were so far apart, could be reawakened with a sufficiently intense feeling, letting him feel everything that was happening to his other half.

What started off as a hunt for a book to help the shy Tenda tribe became a grim venture beneath Stonehenge to rescue all the poor souls taken captive by the Starmen. But it's a long journey to save them, and Giygas' forces are many, so that when the Chosen Four finally arrive at the lair of the Starman Alpha, they're exhausted and drained.
The fight to free the prisoners, to continue their journey, is long and hard. And even though the children triumph in the end, thanks to a last desperate gambit by Jeff and more than a bit of luck, it's still going to take some time for all involved to heal.
