Rafar tilted his head. Triskal was dimly aware of Morbash shredding his skin along with the tunic, his claws digging deep. “Behold, he speaks. Not so righteous after all, hm?” Rafar said, his voice low. “You would let this happen to that poor girl, but you draw the line when it comes to yourself?” He tutted, and then leaned closer. “You know that you can stop this right now. Where is your captain, little angel?”

This Present Darkness fucked me up as an adolescent evangelical, so I decided to write a gay whump fanfic because Frank Peretti would hate that. I tried to provide relevant context in the author’s notes and in the story so nobody has to endure (re)reading the book to know what’s going on.
The angel Triskal is attacked by the demon Rafar and his minions, and in the aftermath finds comfort in his friend and comrade, Krioni. The two forge a close bond and start to realize they would like to be more than friends...
