Summary
It all happened when a famed researcher was at the end of his wits.
The world bore witness to a plague. It took the population by storm. Though not contagious, the infection spread indiscriminately across approximately ten percent of the populace. It ended as soon as it had started—the ten percent were kept under constant surveillance, but there appeared to be nothing to halt the rapid spreading of the virus through their bloodstream.
“Mr. Aventurine. Do you happen to be the vampire of rumors?”
Aventurine paused. Ratio expected him to burst into a fit of laughter and dismiss those rumors with a sensible explanation.
What he hadn’t expected was for the man to lean close, invade Ratio’s personal space, and ask, “If I say yes… what’s in it for me?”
And thus signaled the start to an incredibly unconventional partnership between a human doctor and a cunning vampire.

Summary
Dr. Ratio routinely performs research on his boyfriend, Aventurine (who enthusiastically consents), for the sake of his more "strange" scientific inquiries, and for learning more about the unique physiology of his Avgin lover. At least, he could justify most of his studies with such reasoning. Somehow, certain studies of theirs become even more intimate and personal. One of them, Ratio's latest project, revolves around tiny devices that lets the pair keep track of some of each other’s internal conditions. Perhaps this can allow for a deeper evaluation of the gambler's heart, and perhaps how it beats in tandem (or in contrast) to Ratio's as well.

“Uhh… I don’t think there’s any way for me to put this politely,” Caelus said, actually seeming to flush right before Veritas’ eyes.
“Then say it crudely,” Veritas demanded, too irritable to drag it out. The gnawing heat in his abdomen was grating on his last shred of tact.
Caelus set the phone down and rose to his feet, groaning and scrubbing a hand over his face. “To end the heat cycle, uh… you gotta take a lot of loads,” he finally said, pacing before the couch and sounding profoundly embarrassed. “You feel me?”
After a mishap with one of Madam Herta's curios, Dr. Ratio finds himself aboard the Astral Express and horribly afflicted with a very strange, very pressing condition. The only cure to this bizarre, curio-induced heat? Tricking his body into thinking he's been impregnated.
Luckily for Veritas, a very eager Nameless is more than happy to assist— and he's bringing plenty of back-up.
