Summary
As she sang in harmony with her brethren, Este knew that she alone would not be enough to tend to the ailing and offer healing and rest. She went before Eru and pleaded with him for a race of her own. One who could help her heal his other creations. He gave her the hobbits.
Este was delighted to find that her hobbits could heal just as she could, though they each had their own unique way to access their ability. It wasn’t until their population was swelling almost too large that she realized they were a little too good at healing. So she taught them the importance of rest. A life fully lived did not need to be extended. Sometimes someone could not be healed in a way that mattered and letting them rest was the best option.
Death crept back into their lives and balance was restored. Hobbits grew, discovered their healing touch, and lived full lives. But not even one of the Valar could foresee the devastation brought by a harsh winter and a too short summer. Despite their best efforts, many hobbits joined her to find rest long before they had a chance to grow old. The ones who survived the Fell Winter were discouraged in their abilities but found a different way of healing to cope. All but one.
