Summary
Winters at Kaer Morhen are mostly filled with repairing the barely-clinging-on castle and just recovering from the year on the Path. And readying themselves for the next year. But it gets dark early, and the nights are long and cold alone. Especially when, that far up in the Kaedweni mountains, the blizzards roll in and even a Witcher has to stay inside by the fire or freeze to death. And, well, what's a group of men to do when confined inside to sit beside the fire? They tell stories of course.
The four remaining Wolf Witchers sit together and tell each other a story from their year.

Summary
Suddenly, the pounding of footsteps could be heard, and Ciri listened carefully, trying to make out who it was by the sound.
It was something most of the others had mastered already, thanks to their dumb Witcher hearing, but Ciri had been getting better at it. She'd already assumed it would be either Jaskier or Dandelion, since they were the two most eager to teach her music, and the footsteps were loud and messy, very unlike Dandelion's flouncy movements- so, Jaskier, then.
As he came into view, Ciri rushed forward to greet him, but was beaten to it and enveloped in an eager and just-a-bit-too-tight hug. Huh, Jaskier usually...
"CiCi!" The bard squealed in her ear, voice pitched high enough to hurt Roach's ear if she'd been nearby.
Ohh. That explained the stomping, then.
Or, Ciri is surprised by a different alter than she'd expected, but can't seem to figure out why they seem so down.

It's been three years since Jaskier ran, hand in hand with his little Lioness, Ciri. For three years his sole goal has been to keep her safe as they slowly make their way across the continent. When a gorgeous long-haul trucker with silver white hair picks them up one cold winter's night Jaskier knows the man is dangerous. When he sees just how dangerous first hand, Jaskier knows he should run- running from dangerous men has become the defining theme of his life, after all. But Jaskier has learned how to read a man's intent the hard way and Geralt doesn't feel dangerous. Rather, Jaskier feels safer with him near- Geralt is no threat to them, Jaskier is sure of it. He would never hurt them.
As long as Geralt never finds out who Jaskier is running from, or just how precious his charge actually is, that is.

Eskel made a promise to a scared little boy that he would never leave first.Somehow, fairy lights inexorably become A Part™ of the bond between a gremlin child and his long-suffering brother who left for law school. The copper wires were never structural, the lights were never a metaphor, and —Lambert I swear to Melitele that I'm using an app to change the colours. I'm 1200 kilometers away with an internet connection, I promise the lights aren't haunted.
It ends 15 years later with his second broken promise and fairy lights that still aren't haunted.

Summary
Geralt and Ciri are foraging for herbs in the forest that surrounds Kaer Morhen. The two are looking for catmint, however, Ciri finds a very similar herb instead.
Geralt tells her that although it's not catmint, there are some 'unconventional' uses for it that Vesemir doesn't approve of, and that Lambert would love it if she snuck it into the keep into his alchemy workbench.
The next day, she can't find the rest of the Witchers, and when she does she finds out what the 'unconventional' use of catnip is.

The sequence of events goes something like this:

Lambert and Eskel bring him to an inhospitable keep for months of frigid winter.

Lambert and Eskel realize that the bard is -in fact- a human, not a witcher, and they have made a monumental miscalculation.
It’s fine, surely Geralt won’t care that much… Right? Right?
OR
In their excitement of getting to know the bard that so firmly caught their brother’s attention, Eskel and Lambert drag a fragile human to a frigid keep and have the rest of winter to figure out how to survive the cold and each other.

"Let's go to Kaer Morhen for the winter," Jaskier mocks breathlessly. "It won't be as exciting as last year. We'll rest and recuperate, you said. A moment of peace, you said." Passed out against Jaskier's shoulder, Geralt does not answer. "We could have portaled in. Yennefer and Ciri are portaling to Kaer Morhen in a few weeks time but no. Geralt, oh Geralt hates portals! So we're going to walk up the fucking mountain during a fucking snowstorm."
Jaskier drags an unconscious Geralt up the mountain towards Kaer Morhen, cursing all the while. It takes a few days, some stitches and a fever (and stealing some of Lambert's ale) but eventually they do get a few moments of peace.

From a very young age Geralt knew what he was. At the tender age of two he was left by the river’s edge by his birth parents where his mother found him. She raised him for three years before she too gave him up. Left on the side of the road to be taken in by a Witcher. Vesemir had taken one look at him and knew that he couldn’t be left out in the world to fend for himself.
It was within the high walls of Kaer Morhen that Vesemir told little Geralt that he wasn’t human.

hi!! i suck at summaries, sorry. so i wanted to do a nice angsty fic of ciri and geralt, strictly father/daughter. warning! a lot of angst and hurt comfort. as a reader, i love reading that, so i think i'm not alone in that, so i try to include it a lot in my works <3 requests are taking! this is if ciri did take the serum that is made from her blood, and her surviving through it with geralt by her side. multiple chapters! i'll be writing up until after the finale with this change <3
