Eddie bites down on the inside of his cheek as he puts on shoes, pretending in front of himself that he’s not eager to hear the answer.
“Uh, it wasn’t really mine,” Buck says, and Eddie hears the sheepish smile in his voice. “I was subletting.”

Now traveling under false names, bound by a fake marriage, and with no room for mistakes, Katara finds herself on the road to Ba Sing Se. What begins as mutual distrust slowly turns into eating side by side, sleeping even closer, and something far more dangerous: comfort. She thinks it will end once they reach the city, but in a place crowded with millions of refugees, and stuck in the Lower Ring, she doesn’t have much hope of finding the others. With no leads and nowhere else to go, she resolves to wait for her friends to find her.
But in their cramped apartment, days turn into weeks, and Zuko and Katara begin to settle into something that almost feels like domestic bliss. It isn’t real. Or at least, it isn’t meant to be. But the longer they stay, the harder it becomes to remember where the act ends and something real begins.

“Will.” His voice is velvet. It slips through me, over me, settling into my body with an achingly familiar comfort. He’s close enough that if I wanted to, I could twist my fingers into his jumper. Pull him towards me with the fabric and grab onto his wrist.
“Will, I can’t.” His voice cracks and his eyes look up, searching mine. “I can’t lose you again.”

Especially in Peru, and while it was nice and now he has memories. Faces he’ll never fully forget and people's numbers in his phone that actually want to hear from him. Even from so far away.
Or while bartending in Texas, Buck and Eddie meet at the bar but nothing is what it seems and Eddie doesn’t plan on giving Buck up so easily.

Life had been so perfect lately.
Completely ideal, really. Fully and truly everything that Kevin could expect and or want from it. His scars had all but healed and when he could feel them it was as just the gentlest of tuggings on the sides of his face. He could sometimes go out to the grocery store or out for coffee, even alone sometimes. When Carlos and Cecil left for a walk he just turned on the TV real loud and stayed on the couch until they came back. Sometimes he even made himself a snack, and he was doing just fine. Most of all, he hadn’t regressed in almost a year.
So why was he digging through his toybox now, looking for his paci while chewing on his thumb and wanting to cry his eyes out?

When the town starts assuming they're together, fake dating becomes the path of least resistance. It's just pretend. Just until Sam figures out his music career and Riley figures out how to be a person again.
Except somewhere between the morning coffee routine and late-night songwriting sessions, the lines start to blur. And neither of them is very good at admitting when something stops being fake.
