If he wobbled on his feet, Sokka might have imagined it, because the other boy immediately uprighted himself and continued on like nothing happened. “First: I’m fine.” Debatable. “Second: Long story. I’m being… targeted. I was supposed to head to this place off the coast of the Kyoshi island, but then my. Ship exploded.” He paused here, as if still processing it, before uneasily answering again. “Third… uh, what was the question again?”
Sokka, immaturely, was about to interrogate the boy again, but he didn’t get the chance: Prince Zuko started hacking and coughing, and then, in one sudden, dramatic display, collapsed.

Following the demise of Lu Ten, Ozai's attempt to leap over his brother Iroh as heir to the Throne infuriates Fire Lord Azulon, who seeks to punish his youngest son accordingly. Only this time, Azulon demands Azula's death, not Zuko's. The two young siblings are there to witness it, and their lives will never be the same.
Canon divergence from the night in which Azulon orders Zuko's death. This story will intend to cover the timeline of the original show up to and following Sozin's Comet and beyond.

Azula could feel her inner fire burn as she looked to see her brother and friends escape.
She turns back to the cause, her face twisting in fury, ready to banish, throw fire, unleash hell at the one she once called a friend.
Her heart pounded quickly, with every step she could feel the heat brush off her feet with each step she took to Mai.
Then she stopped.
Suddenly she felt she couldn’t breathe. She tried to take a breath, which sure, might have been a fire blast, but no one would know as nothing but a short gasp escaped her throat.
Mixes of black and white suddenly clouded the edges of her vision, her heart seeming to beat louder that it’s a shock no one seems to hear.

Something broke once Azula saw her brother and friends escape the prison thanks to Mai.
So she runs, not looking back as while she knows by doing so, word bound to get back to her father as betrayal.
But for once in her life she didn’t care what her father thought.
